Icon3 89 Si mushy Brake pedal ? Any ideas?

hey guys my 89 hatch is starting to have a pretty mushy pedal , the car still stops fine, But if you press the brake it goes down pretty far. . . If you pump them the pedal will get stiffer. any ideas?

check your pads and rotors, and if they dont look too wore out you should check your fluid levels and attempt to bleed your brakes. worst that it could be is master or slave brake cylinder

master cylinder is most likely the problem and if you change it yourself. Make sure to bench bleed master cylinder before installing it. My 1990 Honda CRX cost me around 75 bucks for master cylinder and fluid. Oh go new instead of a rebuilt bc saves you in the long run from brakes failing again

ok.. want a cookie?

op: could be your master cylinder, but don't rule everything else out just yet. check all 4 corners and see if you have fluid leaking from anywhere. also, make sure the slides in the caliper are free and the pads are wearing evenly. how's the fluid level in the mc?

My master cylinder was bad and it stayed full. I checked all four wheels for leaks and such. I had none. I just replaced wheel cylinders like two months before my master cylinder went out. I had my master cylinder go out drivin my crx around town. Not fun without brakes and then I figured it must be master cylinder bc no leaks in system.

For sure the master. I can actually hear a vac leak in mine and the pedal is extremely mushy.I pluggd the vac hose from the intake to help high idle and basically breaking with no assistance its better then pedal on floor for now and its not too bad wit such a small car
