oil on sparkplugs?! NEED HELP!

Default oil on sparkplugs?! NEED HELP!

hey whats up guys. ive been reading through the forums and finally decided to make an account. this site is really helpful well anyways...dont be hard on me since its my first post / ima noob but what does it mean if theres oil on the sparkplugs? my pops told me that the head needs to be rebuilt but i think hes wrong. well what do you guys think it is? its a 97 honda accord lx with 283xxx miles

No your head doesn't need to be rebuilt. You probably just need to replace the spark plug tube seals. There are two seals in the F22B2 engine. The upper valve cover seals (Yellow) and the lower o-rings (Red).



You can get a valve cover gasket set that will come with everything you need to replace them. You could try to replace just the upper seals first and see if that stops the leak. A Honda manual is a must if you are going to try to replace the lower o-rings yourself.

Based on the miles, I would bet he needs the lower ones also. You're half way there just doing the upper ones, might as well go all the way. As Ghost said, a manual is a must for proper torque values and sequence for the rocker assembly.

thanks guys. so far, i just replaced the top o rings. the old ones were completely worned out. i was going to replace the lower ones too but i didnt have time. hopefully thats all i needed to do to stop the leaking. well anyways, thanks again
