Default VIDEO: 1996 Honda Accord Airbag Removal and Install

I could not find a good tutorial on how to do this, so I filmed mine with a GoPro Hero as a reference. I am not a tech, mechanic, or anything of the sort, so you will probably see 19 things I did wrong, etc. I am not claiming to be any kind of authority on the matter, just a guy that would have benefited from having something like this prior to doing the R and R.

I should also mention that I mistakenly purchased airbags for a 1995, and the plugs are different. I am selling a pair with module for only $300 if anyone is interested.

Did you follow the Helms or just wing it?

If you didn't follow the proper procedure you're luck the thing didn't blow up in your face. Seriously.

<- Removed his airbag

I'd also suggest you follow my bypass SRS procedure if you're going to an aftermarket wheel. That way your passenger air bag is still functional.

I asked two knowledgeable friends, and I understood that disconnecting the batter does not guaranty the will not discharge, but depending on how long they have been out it will decrease the likelihood.

I was aware it could discharge, but eh, it PROBABLY wouldn't have killed me, just a good punch in the face.

Where is the link to the Bypass SRS procedure? I am keeping the OEM but would like to see the link.

Accord FAQ - I believe it's titled "Bypass SRS System for Aftermarket Wheel"

Fairly simple procedure - and yeah the Helms has you disconnect the battery for 2-3 hours if I'm not mistaken (been awhile since I did it) prior to removing any of the bolts, namely those TORX bits that hold the bag on and then when you pop it out.

Cool. That was my understanding also. I was told that if you battery dies and you are on the side of the road waiting for service, get hit head on, they store enough battery life to still deploy.

These bags were sitting for a week prior to installing. The old bags were already deployed, so I did the R&R. I am not experience, but I am not an idiot either, lol.
