got a 1998 honda crv with about 155,000 miles.. go out to start it and it just cranks but wont crank over.. then try it acouple times a day for like 4 days and then it randomly starts up.... then i drive it for acouple weeks and it starts fine.. go out one day and it wont start just like the first time and then it wont start for like 2 days and then it just randomly starts up.. drive it for a month and its just fine.. go out and it wont start and then the very next day it starts up but the engine makes a really bad noise for about 10 sec and then stops.. its not the battery.. car has fuel.. and not the alternator.. any help is appreciated thanks

 

first thing I would replace would be the main relay.

 

pull out the main relay and open it and make sure there are no cracks in the solder. when it wont start, pull a spark plug wire and stick a screw driver in the spark plug wire and have some one turn it over and hold the screw driver against the frame and see if it sparks if not hit the relay a couple times and try again.

 

the relay could also burn out on the fuel pump circuit. so it could still get spark but not start because its not getting any fuel.

 

well to be honest sounds like either ur main relay or your fuel pump... everytime u hop in your car an turn the key see if you hear the fuel pump prime.. u will hear it its like a hissing sound.. if it primes everytime an car still dont start problem is somewhere else.. but it sounds like ur pump or realy

 

Have tried measuring the voltage at the battery while the car is off and also on. See if the voltage drops. This will test if your alternator is going out on you.

 

there is a recall on the ingnition cylinder.
