grounds are checked. battery post are clean. i have to charge battery every so often for it to hold a charge last charge was 2 days ago. could be bad alternator or battery? ignition switch?
Sounds like a battery gone bad.
Jump start it.
Disconnect the positive connector and see if it still runs.
If it does, then the alternator is probably good.
If you have a voltmeter, check to see what the voltage is while it's running.

well i decided to get a jump and wtf do you know fires right up. so either alternator or battery. called my speed shop for a high performance alternator and need opinions on batteries.
Since it's running on a jump, but can't start under battery power I would give it a 99% probability that your battery is gone.
How old is it? Cheap ones last about 3 years. Better ones get a year or two more.
If it's less than 3 years old, have your alternator checked. It might be under or overcharging.
