I need Help / advice on what size exhaust piping to run.
Okay, i have a 95 civic sedan, and i have to replace my exhaust piping from the header to the muffler. I do plan on going the turbo route some day before too long, but my question is, would 2.5 in. or 3 in. be better to go with? If i had to guess i would say 3in. , but i don't want to guess, i want to be sure before i spend money on the wrong setup. Thanks in advance for all the help.
You want the exhaust piping to be the same size as the header outlet. When exhaust piping suddenly switches to a larger size, it can drasticly alter the sound, giving the note a kind of echo as if you were hearing it through a metal pipe (for lack of a better term- I know that you ARE hearing it through a metal pipe :p). The size change also creates turbulence that slows down the flow of gasses.
if this is a D16 or D15 with bolt ons i would definately not go any bigger then 2.5. you need back pressure.if its turbo then you could run 3" because turbo needs to get rid of the exhaust as fast as it can to help build boost. even a stock b16 or b18 with bolt ons i would not run anything bigger then 2.5in.
