my gas milage sucks. whats wrong?
EDIT with the question. how many miles should i be getting from a full tank out of a stock 91 si crx d16a6?
im getting about 250 miles per tank. when i fill it up i get to about half tank with 150 miles but then it kinda drops fast from there which leaves me getting about 190-240 miles per the tank fill.
i have a 91 crx si with a stock d16a6 engine. i had a camber issue really bad and i thought that was it but i got it fixed and i still have bad MPGs

tune up! or your gauge is messed
how are you getting your mpg calulations?
I not questioning your smarts at all dont take it the wrong way
i have a turbo gsr, its a little better
not by nuch
i get about 195-210 miles to about 11.2 gallons
roughly 18mpg mixed driving
Type r tansmission

i have a similiar problem with my 90 civic hatch D15B2.
**** gas mileage, white smoke, and the smell of gas.
i know the head gasket is shot. but does that effect your gas mileage?
also my IAC valve is ****, i have to clean it out every couple months.
any suggestions. i was just going to swap in a D16a6 mpfi and call it a day.
will a D16a6 bolt up to my std 4 speed tranny? do i need harnesses, axles and what not?

Check tire pressure.
Stay away from ethanol mixed gasoline if you can.
Tune up should be a top priority here.
My d16a6 was averaging 30 mpg in city driving and 40 mpg highway.
If ur running rich, that means FUEL>AIR, so you must have a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or leaking injectors.
Does the car sometimes NOT start up on the first try?

Same problem on my b16 obd-0. Strong smell of gas, crap gas mileage. Has to be something universal if all of us are having this problem. My car always turns on but roughly. Ive noticed it turns on right away in the heat with no problems. Who's got the solution?
It should be a sticky somewhere, but if you have the smell of fuel in your engine bay or while driving it, then your problem can ONLY be a few things.
-fuel injector dripping into the cylinder instead of spraying
-fuel injector o-ring wearing down, or the rubber gasket that is pressed between the fuel rail and injector body.
-FPR faulty, i dont know how it goes bad, but it could result in pushing out too much fuel into the cylinder.
-leak in fuel lines either coming from the tank, or the lines from the fire wall into the fuel rail.
The fuel system is probably the easiest to work on, you dont have to open the head/block to get to the guts. Everything is right there, and could only be so many things wrong.
Some other problems that are "user error"...
-high flow fuel pump (turbo applications)
-high cc injectors
-high flow fuel rail
^^those "should" be used for turbo applications, remember, the ratio of fuel has to be equal to the ratio of air. So, in turbo, you got all that air, you need a **** load of fuel while spooling.

How I test mileage:
- fill up tank
- set tripometer
- next fill up, write down how much gas it took to fill it, the miles on the tripometer, and reset
- divide miles/gallons
For reference, I got 32-35mpg of mixed driving on my LS-VTEC CRX ... so yours definitely sounds low.

I have a 94 civic si with a b16a swap and im having the same problem. I really think that it has something to do with the sparkplugs but hopefully not much else. my car starts up first time and the smell of gasoline comes in waves.
i need help!

Most fuel gauges for these years are almost 1 gallon off. It reads low when there is really 1 gallon in the tank. When I do the calculation described above, and I refill with 1/4 tank of gas it comes out to around 26 - 28mpg. This is recorded over 4 months of daily driving.
I've ran 355 miles out of my RT4WD wagon. 91 All stock. . . then I ran out of gas! :] LOL
I now keep a 1 gallon of fake fuel in the car and rotate it every 6months or so. And fill up at around 330 - 340 miles. Im averaging around 29 - 31 mpg
Most states have ethanol (thank you corn lobbyists and tree-huggers = usux!) and the mix will break down the seals in the fuel system. Replacing them is somewhat easy depending on location

Need some info on this too, my stock d16a6 has also been getting crap mileage. Used to average around 30 city driving. Now its around 25. It also bogs, stumbles in the low rpms before it runs good after the 2500 rpm range.
