Default Crx the Everyday Struggle

I am having some issues with my D16 crx. First of all my idle is really messed up (idle at 500 or less and jumping around), When i down shift it sounds as if my engine is back firing (i think i am running rich) when i push hard on the brake the car will die, I am pretty sure i am running rich as there is a lot of cake on my muffler, I am only getting about 180 miles to the take (16 mpg ) My car falls off its powerband at 3k, i dont think this is normal as i4's make their power in the upper range, and i have no pull in 3-5 gears. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Could be a lot of things.
Is your check engine light on?
When was your last tune up? - what was done?

Your ignition system could be faulty - check your spark plugs. Take pics and post them if you can. This may give a big hint to the issue.

How is your oil? Do you have to add oil ever?

Could be a plugged exhaust. If your car has a catalytic converter it may be at fault. Take the cat off and inspect it. IF it's plugged then you not only have to fix that, but also the engine (something isn't right if your cat failed.)

Should be a good starting point.

Check Engine Light is off

Last tune up was one month ago (oil, alignment, plugs, thermostat, coolant, fuel filter, pump)

I have only owned the car two months and havent had to add oil yet.

Tomorrow i am getting a custom exhaust, and will inspect the cat, and tomorrow i will also add pictures of my plugs

I'll bet anything you threw that fuel pump in there, and just expected it to work????

You NEED a an adjustable fuel regulator....your pressure is probably through the roof!

I would also be concerned with the "****" as it could indicate your gas tank is rusting and needs to be cleaned. This can foul up a bunch of stuff if not taken care of (had it happen to me on another car I once owned).

Does the engine die all the time when you brake?if so you could have a brake booster issue.

I was told that replacing the stock pump with with the larger one would have no effect until i changed the fpr and injectors, and that it should run fine with stock fpr. The engine doesnt die everytime i brake, but if i dont down shift to a stop and just use the brakes if i keep pressing them the car tends to die, but if i use them in combination with down shifting it doesnt die

Stock engine should get stock fuel pressure.
Stock FPR regulates to stock pressure, right?

By down shift do you mean pushing in the clutch? If you are braking and don't push in the clutch then the engine will die as you are lugging it while still in gear at lower rpms. Don't take this as me trying to make fun of you...just trying to clarify what you mean.

Well, i have an 89 CRX Si, and have personal experience with this, as i installed a 255lph pump in my car about 10 years ago. At that time, i was still running a NOS powered dohc ZC with just some bolt ons.
I swapped out the fuel pump for the high flow model, then took it for a test drive. Bogged like hell at lower rpm, then would pick up, but would smoke like hell (black color). Came back to the shop and popped the hood. My fuel pressure had jumped from 42psi to close to double that!!! Fortunately, i already had an adjustable fuel regulator from B&M....made a quick adjustment....FIXED

By down shifting i mean shifting down when approaching a stop and letting the engine which would be at higher rpm and pull the car to a stop , then doing so again, and again until i am at like 5 mph and stop.

I just installed a walbro 255lph in my b16 crx this past weekend and my car is running like poo as well. Did you rewire the fuel pump as well? I'm in for some information.

I'm talking about rewiring from the relay to the tank. Mine kept blowing the alternator solenoid fuse.

B&M is the cheaper way to do it, as it just modifies the stock regulator, but it does work!

AEM is a full billet adjustable regulator that bolts on, it is top notch!!

Blox is an entry level brand, I have never used their product, i don't know. Typically, you get what you pay for
