i get a tapping sound every once in a while could be on startup could be after warmed up. its a noise that sometimes happens.. i thought it needed a valve adjustment so i adjusted all the valves to the smaller clearance and still samething.. i have no idea what it could be or causing it.. any ideas??? really sounds like a valve tapping tho.. im still getting about 24mpg too. should i do a leakdown test on it or just say f it an put a b16 head on lol.. hope you guys can help or give me diff ideas on what this noise can be.......

 

water pump?

 

i doubt the water pump never had a pump ever make a noise like that i seen a bunch fail... it sounds like a valve tap but only happens sometimes.. its crazy... any ideas guys???

 

no one ever comes in this section... no one ever looks at these things... were in like the middle ages in this section not cool.... but help would be great or maybe some more ideas on what it might be.. i guess ill check back in a month to see one reply thanks HT!!!

 

Even though you already adjusted them, it could still be the valves causing the noise. Hondas valves are a little noisy, period lol. My 99 B20Z CR-V does the same thing, and so does the 1994 B18B in my 94 Civic Hatch. Ive adjusted the valve lash on both. Tapping is quieter than before, but its is still there.

 

i know what noisy valves sound like i have no problem with that but what i am saying is that there is a distinctive tap tap tap tap tap like every half a second for like 5 minutes sometimes 2 minutes.. this happens sometimes when i first start the car then warms up an stops.. sometimes starts cold warms up then the tapping starts an lasts for a few minutes sometimes until i turn the engine off.. its a weird thing that happens sometimes and is buggin me out cant figure it out..

Were you doing anything to the car before it started the tapping? Might be something that didn't get tightened up?

 

nope.. car is 100% stock... just picked it up 1 owner... just started happening out of no where and happens when it wants to for as long as it wants too....

 

it could just be the valves are tapping.... how much KM's are on it? it could also mean piston slap as well..

 

103k and got it with 99k.. thas what it sounds like but all the motors i encountered with that problem have it happen all the time not sometimes like mine... this **** got my head hurtin

 

i also get this problem... i thought i was trippin LOl i guess im not the only one. I have a b18b on my integ about 140k miles
