Gearshift position indicator question
I just finished putting my head back in my car and I'm kinda stumped on this one. Before I replaced cylinder heads I had a malfunctioning ICM so i replaced that too but now that everything is together I try to turn the car on and nothing happens. Turn the accessory on and all the accessories fire up fine, turn the ignition to start the and nothing, No turn over no nothing except a massive power draw is what im guessing. Well as a hunch I looked at the dash and noticed that the Park and D3 gears are selected. Odd... So put the ebrake on and put the car in Neutral and try to start the car, the starter is trying to start but the battery is low so nothing but at least its trying to crank. Another interesting note is while its in neutral trying to start the speedometer needle starts jumping.
What I can surmize so far is that the car is thinking the transmission is engaged when its really in park so it wont try to start. When its in neutral the car tries to start.
Any suggestions on where to try to start troubleshooting this one? It's a 96 Accord and im doing it in the rain so yea i'm having a blast of a time. I've checked the fuses for the starter and everything and they all check out. The battery is low but that wouldn't explain the problem. I'm currently trying to find some info on the gearshift positioning sensor. Any suggestions are appreciated.
