found mud in the oil pan
guess the dbag that sold me this car really needed to get one over to sell it. drives fine as-is, but i know it's running on borrowed time. Sipping coolant at a rate of about half a quart a week.
Now H-Ter's I ask, what would you do? Put in an unknown but supposedly running swap from a wrecked car, or would you replace the headgasket and gamble with the chance of a warped deck?
Machining is out of the question because I don't have the time to disassemble the shortblock to get it to the machinist and go through all the steps when I could just replace the motor and sell it with a decently running motor from a different car.
and finally, DAMNIT WHY DID I BUY AN AUTO
if it was 5spd I could drop my extra H22 + P13 in.. I have all the god damn parts for the swap.

Why not mate the H22 to the automatic transmission?
Personally I'd think if you seafoamed the motor, changed the headgasket, changed the coolant, changed the oil, etc you could keep the car as is with current motor.

because using an h22 is a waste of a nice motor (in my opinion of course). I guess the question is mainly from a time-constrained stand point where I can't have a car on jack stands for an extended period of time. So here are the options that I currently see:
A) Take the head off, measure for flatness with precision straight edge, and put a new headgasket on and run it from there. The problem is that if the block is warped, it'll be a painful process to get it out and get it machined.
B)Get a dirtcheap F22B2 and drop it in, probably a 1-2 day affair.
basically with option A, it's a gamble of spending a mere 60 or so dollars on a HG or it could spike up easily to 3-400$ for machining and other parts while I'm in there. But with option B I would be spending 250$ flat rate for a running motor (most likely, but the off chance it has a problem can occur as well). So I don't know which gamble would be the safer gamble.
