Default holy ****, can you people help, d16y8 issues, have pictures

Hey i just went out and compression tested my y8,

cyl #1-4 were all 210 psi, with 15A fuse pulled and throttle rite down. im pretty sure thats the proper way to do it, and the motor only has 134,000 km (orig. chassis)

the problem is that there is kinda like a puffing air sound coming from the motor, but when i start it, it is very hard to start (abit easier when its cold) and when i push the gas, even the slightest bit, it shuts off most of the time (if im verryyyyy easy pushing the gas, then it goes up the rpm, but bogs alot).

i've tried everything, dizzie, new plugs, new plug wires, new iacv, i really dont know what else to do or how much further to diagnose it, and i dont have alot of money. if i pull the head off the block, would i have a better chance of diagnosing the problem, maybe i can see something or burnt valves, or should i leave the head on to diagnose it

ok, so this morning i went out and checked the timing belt if it may have slipped, i rotated the cam sprocket to the "up" position, and checked on the crank pulley. there is 3 lines (one in the middle has a red line) and then spaced out by a single white line. where do i line the crank pulley up with? i saw a few pictures and there is an etching on the block, but that requires me to take the crank pulley off, no? what do i gotta line the crank pulley dot up with, when the crank pulley/belt is still on the car? im ****ing stumped with this piece of **** car

There is a little raised notch on the plastic timing cover that you point a timing light at to set ignition timing. There are four marks on the pulley- three together and one separate. Line up the one solo mark with the notch on the timing cover. You should test your spark at all four wires. To test the spark, either buy a spark tester or:

Disable the fuel injectors and get a new or known good spark plug. Set the gap of this plug to your vehicle's specifications and make sure it is clean afterward. Wear gloves (welding gloves work great), preferably with latex or nitrile gloves underneath, and remove a spark plug wire from its plug. Connect the good plug to the end of the wire and hold the plastic deep-well tube at the very tip of the wire end with the threads of the plug touching bare metal on the valve cover. Have an assistant crank the motor while you watch the spark, carefully keeping all body parts away from the plug, motor and car body. Different types of plugs have different colored sparks but usually a good spark is a thick, strong flow of bright pink or is at least bright. Little blue or pink "lightning bolts" indicate a weak ignition. Check all four wires. If the sparks at all of the wires are weak, try holding the threads of the plug against the battery negative post to see if the better ground makes a stronger spark. This will test your entire ignition.

You follow a similar procedure when using a spark tester. GL

here are the pics while the cam gear is set to the "UP" position. might be a few millimeters off, because, unlike a b series where the cam gears have dots, i just went by my judgement of when the UP mark was fully up

here is a few pics, kinda tight in there but i tried my best: take note that in the 2nd picture, the camera was not directly on top of the crank pulley, it was more towards the firewall, but i did not move anything while taking the pics

Do you have a check engine light on and if so what are the codes?

no, cel codes at all.

im thinking that if the timing was off, where is the puffing of air sound coming from when it does start. how does a blown piston ring sound or a blown exhaust valve sound?

Did you do anything to the car before you had this problem?

Cracked rings usually burn a TON of oil. Exahust valves burned out normally mean backfiring. If your timing is off you could be getting ignition detonation into the intake through the intake valve. Sounds like a puffing sound. Did your timing belt slip, or have you lost some teeth on the belt?

When checking the valve timing, first turn the crank counterclockwise (NEVER turn the crank backwards) until the TDC mark is perfectly lined up. With the plastic timing covers on the motor, the little notches on each side of each cam gear should form a straight line across both gears that is parallel to the top of the upper timing cover. The "up" marks on the gears are only there so that when installing a timing belt you know which arm of each gear should point in a generally upwards direction. They're just to prevent the belt from being installed with a cam gear upside down.
