Icon6 MPG sensor ported to 09 dash display??

Hey all,

My buddy just bought a 2009 Civic EX and he wants to be able to check fuel economy and stuff like that. I told him about the ScanGuageII and the PLX KIWI, but he wants something that will plug into the car's dashboard display. I dont know of anything like this. Anybody have any ideas?? or does anyone have any diy hack jobs that might work?

Thanks

This is what mine used to look like with a Scangauge. Since then, I bought a thin CAT5 cable and plugged it into the back of the Scangauge so that no wires would be visible.

^ghetto....Just fill up and drive then fill up again. The end result will be the same as the live reading.

I think the Civic's lack of an MPG gauge really sucks. I think we've all driven cars that have them and they are very handy, especially if you want to tailor your driving style on the fly for better MPG.

Don't comment on something you have no knowledge about (Scangauge).

I like that idea, but what he's looking for is to have it actually display THROUGH the civic's stock display . . . i dont think anyone makes anything for that, but i dont know . . . anyone else know something i don't?

I've heard that the civic hybrid can display the MPG info on it's display, would it be possible to switch displays or modules and put the fuel sensor over in a regular civic?

On a side note...I got 29.5 mpg on my last tank of fuel (with I/H/E). I was estatic. I knew having summer tires back on instead of my Blizzaks would make a difference but I still didn't think it'd be that great, especially with a bunch of hard trips through VTEC.

Fair enough....I won't comment on things I have no idea about.

So I still say it looks queer and you have other problems if you need a scangauge to help you drive more efficiently. If you want more mileage just get out of the pedal and drive slower. Only push the pedal as far as you need to gradually get up to the desired speed. If I had one it wouldn't make me get better fuel mileage, I don't need a coach or a visual to look at to increase my mileage.

Besides good gas mileage is overrated. It's much more fun to shoot fireballs of pure carbon out of my straigt pipe into tree huggers' ear canals as I bang gear after gear.

Awwww, cmon guys . . . are we really gonna have a flaming contest on this thread? i never said anything about an MPG sensor being practical or necessary, but if im gonna get paid to install something for this guy, i want to give him what he wants.

SOOOOOooooooooooo, Does the civic hybrid's show your mpg information, and if so, how hard would it be to swap one of their dash displays and sensors from one of those into a standard 09 civic?
