Default noob with a 91 ef hatch.

hey I just got my first car, a 91 ef hatch of craigslist. its with a d15b1. I just put in a cold air intake, but besides that its all stock. I know the engine is crap but Ill will get a swap once I got enough money to get something good. so until then, what is the main things I should get for it to make it quicker & better.

Replace all broken and worn suspension parts. Rebuild your steering rack if it has slop and make sure that your brakes are in tip top shape. That is the first thing you should concern yourself with before thinking about more power

i would follow these suggestions first. all the power in the world is not gonna make a difference if your car can't handle/stop the power.

after that, the first thing I would do is a dpfi-mpfi conversion. going mpfi will be the base for future motor swaps.

by suspension do you mean just the shocks and springs? I've driven way too many cars that go all over the place and it's scary as fawk. An H22 eg for example that I refused to drive again because it was such a p.o.s. You'll be amazed how nice it feels when you change out all the broken and worn out ball joints, bushing and steering components.

^^^ ftw. Just getting the brake fluid changed on my CRX when I got it in made a world of difference. Now I have new struts and springs and 10x better. Next is replace all the 20 year old bushings to complete the job.

My brake fluid is almost full ^^.

another thing, my engine was smoking a little bit, looked like it was coming from or below the air intake where it connects to what ever it connects too. it kinda smells like syrup or caremel...
and no, I didnt spill oil or caremel on it.

That would probably be coolant from somewhere.... He meant have your brake fluid flushed! Get all the old crap out of there, not just add some more. Don't mess with the engine, no intakes, no header, none of that no real power making BS till you have your suspension, brakes and steering under control. If you still don't have enough for a swap after that, then wait some more it will be worth it!

Here is a link for the conversion: http://www.angelfire.com/d20/hcivic88/dx-siwiring.html
But i would suggest doing a integra rear disk brake conversion too. I did the whole swap from a junk yard and got new rotors and pads for 150. heres the link for that:https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...isk+conversion
