SK2 Pro1s vs. SK2 Pro2s for my build?
I tried searching a bit for Pro1 vs. Pro2 for peoples builds, but I couldn't really find much besides valve specs and clearance issues etc.
Well, it's pretty simple. Which cams should I run in my set up Pro1s or Pro2s ? Excuse me for being a noob, just bear with me. Goal WHP: 215+hp.
Here is my build:
Complete GSR motor:
Port & Polished Head
3 Angle Valve Job
Supertech Valvesprings/Retainers
Flat-faced Valves
Stock or Mugen/Spoon HG
Block:
Bored to 82MM
LS Crank
P30 Pistons on LS Rods
Blox Manifold ( Portmatched )
70MM TB ( Portmatched )
RMF Narrow Replica
2.5' exhaust to a BC Spec 2
Hondata S100

Pro2's for sure. There's a dyno that someone did with a basic 1.8L and did back to back comparisons of pro1 vs pro2s and the pro2s made more power everywhere. I also remember someone from Skunk2 themselves telling me that the pro2's were a better cam themselves. Every motor will be different so this is just my opinion and take it for what its worth.
Really ? I haven't even put on the Spec2 yet, it's just chillin' at my friends house for now. What's the inlet on the Spec2?
No requirement per-se, just the fact that well matched supporting mods and good flow will make more power on those cams than if they're not there. 11:1 and up depending on gas being used, and the quality of tune, would be considered ideal.
well im not totally sure what the regular versus pro springs difference is, but supertech makes some heavy duty stuff so it is probably stiffer and what not than some of the skunk springs. who knows tho.
Make no mistake....the Skunk2 Pro series valvesprings are PROBABLY the highest quality ones on the market. They're also some of the more expensive.
That begs the question of whether or not you want to spend your hard-earned money on a "Really Good" product, or on some that are better.
If Supertech will do the job WELL and cost considerably less, I might just go with them.
If you're buying ALL NEW stuff from a reputable dealer, I'd match my valvetrain to my cams. IF something goes wrong, they're more likely to make it right as opposed to pointing the finger at the other vendor.
Considering you've already invested in ST valvesprings, I don't think it's necessary to go back and buy Skunk2 Pro Series springs. I don't think any builder worth his salt would tell you otherwise.

but with such a big set of cams i think it would be worth looking into the comparative measurements and strengths of the two springs. theres probably a reason S2 says only the pro springs with the pro cams.
They say that from more of a marketing/sales/warranty perspective. There are other springs that can handle their cams no problem, but matching valvetrain is always ideal if you can afford it.

the motor is too small to take full advantage of the pro 2
