Default Bad tranny or bad clutch?

My EF will not shift in 1st. It only shifts in 2nd if you slow way down. The rest of the gears are hard to get in to and make a grind noise.

The car moves forward just slightly in gear and with clutch pedal all the way down. And it clutch catch point is very close to where the pedal is full on floor. Makes me think clutch was bad or installed wrong?

This is a 91 civic si.

I am a diy guy and want to make the car shift like new.

I wonder what the costs would be to replace tranny and clutch. And I am interested in possibley upgrading some components as well. I think I would engine swap or turbo in the future just as a fun project.

Btw the car has over 250k miles on. Has a new D16Y8. Has a stock exhaust but the car sounds noisyer than stock.

Adjust your clutch cable, it may be too tight.

If that doesn't help i'd bet on the transmission being or going bad.

it doesn't shift into 1st at all?

could be your shift fork in the transmission. cost of a clutch isnt bad.

You don't need a new tranny, maybe just a new shift fork. might as well replace all the bearings if you've got it open.

you have the cable to tight... turn the adjustment collar counter clockwise about 5 turns and see if it still wants to move forward with the clutch pushed in and the car in gear...
If this works just fine tune the clutch adjustment collar so theres about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of play in the clutch arm when u pull up on it by hand...

its right next to the battery and all you need to adjust it is a 5 finger discount and a palm print all in one...!!!
