removing atf filler bolt 99 odyssey LX
Hi. Anyone know how to remove this thing?
Service manual says only 36 lb-ft should be used when reinstalling. I have probably exceeded 100 lb-ft on my torque wrench removing and nothing has budged except the extender shaft failed on my socket. (cheap chinese junk)
does anyone have this? TSB #10012004 -- REMOVING A STUBBORN ATF FILLER BOLT
Many thanks
Ed

The 17mm filler bolt is notoriously tight at times. If you place your extension with socket on the fill bolt and strike the end of the extension with a hammer this usually works. Honda published a service news (or techline summary I cant remember which)on this issue and this is what they recommend to do. Be careful that you dont get crazy with the hammer and crack the trans case.
I bought a 2 ft long Snap-on breaker bar and havent had to use an impact yet.

detected a little sarcasm there. actually, that's how I do it after I drain the "old" fluid from the trans when doing a service. the fill plug is a pain in the butt to get loose and to get to. it's in the back under the intake tube.

correct me if im wrong, when using the filler hole, you fill until it comes out of the filler hole. correct? in my auto civic, its through the dipstick hole which is a decent size
Absolutely not! Only on a manual transmission. On an automatic fill the specified amount.
