Default fuel pump install now gas gauge off

Ok guys so i dropped my tank, ect put in in the new 255, put everything back on and car fired up and drives fine, no leaks everything is good execpt the gas gauge!
So i ran the car almost empty to i could drop it easliy since its lighter. Well i drove to the gas station and put in the usual 10$ of 91 which gets me 3.6gal of gas which would be 1/2 tank on the gauge BEFORE the fuel pump swap! Now it only reads 1/4 tank with the same amount of gas!

I did not touch the fuel sending unit at all, only did the fuel pump!, the connection is fine and wires are good. It works its just off now....Any ideas?

^^ this.

$10 of gas? Yeah... that's an accurate measure. =P. Fill it up. You waste more money using your brakes, starter, etc, going in for '$10 fill-ups' instead of just filling the tank.

weird. i put my 255 fuel pump in and now when i go above 4500 rpm with less than 1/8 a tank it runs lean. basically it takes a nose dive and scares me cause i feel like i hurt my baby. idk, im assuming since the pump isn't as long as the old one, the fuel rushes to the back of the tank and doesn't get picked up by the filter.

make sure u changed the pickup screen and lengthen the small fuel hose ..only bout 1/4 inch is needed. a medium sized "new" hose clamp will secure it to the assembly, (get rid of little rubber piece for bottom of stock pump). the filter screen MUST be the same length as stock. lemme know if u needa pick, i still have mine out cuz im waitin for the main filler-neck to tank hose, $35 bucks!!! ouch! lates
