Default DC2 leaking transmission

The transmission on my ITR is leaking from this big plug that I circled in this picture. Anyone know what this is for? Any ideas on what I can do to stop the leak? It's not a really bad leak but I would prefer to fix it so I don't need to worry about checking my fluid and making a mess on my garage floor.

Looks like the C-clip bolt, 1/2” socket bolt. You can tighten it with 1/2” socket.

I used this thread for refrence.

Its a C clip plug for the secondary shaft. You can try to back it out a little and put some rtv sealant on it then tighten it back up.

Thanks for the help

But is it safe to remove this plug, put some sealant on the thread and put it back in without messing up my transmission? I understand I will lose some oil but thats no big deal I can just top it back up.

rtv is fine it wont go pass the threads unless you dunk the whole thing in rtv.just lightly out it on the threads of the plug

you could also use liquid thread sealer which will probably work better then rtv. it's basically liquid teflon tape. if it can seal propane fittings, then it can seal an oil leak

But is it safe for me to remove the bolt without some shaft in the transmission falling out of place or something?

I just want to make sure I don't mess something up just trying to fix a small leak

No shaft in the trans will fall out when you remove it. just make sure you dont tighten it too hard and crack your trans housing...

I only just tried to fix this leak today because it was getting worse.

I took the plug out and tried to using some of that tape that is made to seal fixings but I didn't like how it went on, don't think it made a great seal. But anyway I took the car for a run and parked it up and left it for a few hours and it still leaked but only a very small amount, much better than it was before. So I might try taking it out again and using some silicone gasket maker I have which I think will work better.

If any of you guys are going to try this be careful with the plug the threads don't look like they can take much abuse and mines were partially stripped when I took the plug out The transmission had been rebuilt before with the previous owner so I guess someone had overtightened it or something.

Incase any of you guys with similar problems are wondering how to fix this I managed to stop the leak with some Threebond 1215 Silicone Liquid Gasket I had laying around.

I just backed the plug out a little bit, cleaned it up with petrol and covered the threads in the silicone gasket maker and tightened it back up and let it cure for 2 days. The Threebond is good stuff, it's made for sealing 2 metal surfaces together and stopping oil getting through.

Does not leak at all now

Good news.

I noticed my tranny was leaking too. Turns out the reverse plug/sensor had backed itself out. Tightened that and problem solved.
