d16y8 intake manifold swap question
Hello all, this is my first post here but I come here quite often lurking the boards seeking information. I'm a relatively new Honda owner and I'm kind of just getting into the game, if you will.
Anyways, I have a 91 Honda CRX HF model with a D16a6 swapped in. I am planning on doing a mini-me swap with a y8 head. I bought the head and it came with a complete intake manifold. Only problem is that the intake is from the automatic version of the car so it has the 3 pin IACV on the throttle body instead of the 2 pin on the actual manifold like the manual version has.
What should I do? I have no idea how to get around this particular hurdle. Now, before anyone starts screaming "use the search, n00b!!!" I assure you I have exhausted all available resources and I am still a bit fuzzy on how to hook this up. Also, is there anything else I should know before I begin the manifold swap? I plan on getting the intake on and working before I do the mini-me... One step at a time (I am a n00b, after all)
Thanks in advance for any help!

Don't mean to be the new guy who bumps things but I'm hoping to get this project done this weekend so I need all the help I can get!
Anyway, as a follow up question: I've heard very good things about putting a B series throttle body on a y8 intake, is there any feasible way to do this given my particular circumstances? My IACV is on the throttle body so switching that off for a different one would leave me without any plug. Could I find a way to ghetto my a6 IACV on the y8 intake? Sorry if I am retarded, I just can't find very much info on this swap and I'm *extremely* new to working on cars of any kind. Thanks a lot!

Do a search on "IACV mod"...here's one hit: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...light=IACV+mod
best thing u could do is swap iacv's from a different manifold, there pretty easy to come by, especially if u have any honda buddys, im sure they would have extras laying around.
Runnamukk, I will look into the IACV mod. The links on that page are dead but now that I know the term I can probably find some very useful information. Thank you!
And 8dxhatchy8, would I just be able to install the IACV from the manual y8 onto my automatic intake? Or could I us any kind of IACV from a D series if I can find a way to put it on? I notice on the back of my intake there is a place for an IACV but it only has one screw hole.

im not to familiar with the y8 manifolds but i thought they were set up the same as any other d series...might just hit up the junk yard and see what u can find...
Well the IACV on my a6 manifold looks like it is a completely different shape than then y8 one... I was just wondering if I could find a way to rig it to work so I won't get a check engine light because of idling problems. If not I will have to hit up my local pull-a-part and see if they have any Civic EXs that I could grab an IACV from because I really want to try out a B series throttle body on the y8 intake to see the increase in HP and throttle response makes any kind of difference at all.

That's good to hear! I'm not trying to make a super duper race car but I really enjoy tinkering on things in my spare time. Like I said before I have a d16y8 head that I am prepping to do a mini-me with, I just want to do the intake manifold swap first and get that all up and running before I do anything else. This car is my daily driver so I just take it step by step that way I still have something to get to work and school with.
Actually, I don't think I am going to. Maybe later on I will when I have the time and money. I think I am just going to get a cheap eBay vtec controller for the time being to run my vtec. I know, I know... It's not really the "correct" way to do it but it is the easiest so it will work for now.
Yeah, I've been reading these forums for awhile and a lot of people are *very* vocal about their opinions on how everyone else should set up their cars. I don't mind having a vtec controller for a bit. I'm low on money so I just want to get everything up and running; when I get around to it I will make the switch to OBD1 the right way and get an OBD1 vtec ECU.
Anyone else know if I can "ghetto-rig" my a6 IACV onto my y8 intake? It would save me a trip to the junkyard and a couple of bucks.
