What do you lokk for if getting a used turbo setup.....
Hey all, like the title says, i might get a used d16 turbo setup, i was just wondering if anyone knew what to look for(turbo,wastegate,etc) its gonna be my first turbo kit and was wondering...Any help is great thanks peeps....
Depending on how much you are paying see what brand of turbo it is and wastegate. The intercooling piping can be generic but those two need to be reliable.
Garrett and turbonetics are good turbo brands. Tial and HKS are good wastegate brands. Is that what you are asking? or are you asking how to check and see if the two are still in good working condition?
I think he means how to check the condition of it. I say try to look for any cracks, leaks, and most likely they cleaned it up if it did have a leak, if so, look for a slight dicoloration in the metal. If possible, a contract or something that it works properly... if you know what I mean

There are also other name brands that are just as good. List the parts you see and we will tell you. Also be sure the turbo your getting is for that motor. You can stick any turbo on any motor but there is more to it then that.

How can u tell if it got messed up from water, i offered the guy if he would swap the turbo kit for a set of gsr blades that i have, is it worth it?
What r you guys talking about, thats a custom top mount son!! and its got the v-band connectors. u gonna put a tune on that thing? liking the custom rad support and bracket
that turbo and motor is actually in a 88 tercel, ran a 14.3 on 5 psi, no tune... how can u guys tell if it was messed up with water...?
thats Turbonetics DeltaGate Mark II Wastegatesis worth more $100 if its ok condition? i had TiaL waste gate i switched back to Turbonectics wg. turbo is big if theres play feels loose i wouldnt get it cost about $300 for repairs! cast iron manifold looks good but i wouldnt use it if theres signs of cracks. used HKS bov they go for $50-$100. DSM intercooler im guessing $25-$50. vs set of GSR blades that go $250 to $500. i wouldnt recommend that kind of set for daily use. i prefer speed over looks. i knew people that bought Ebay turbo kits that kick *** but dont last over 1year usually the manifold cracks or turbo goes bad.
im kinda torn because i really want a turbo setup but no one has one, anyone got a d16 turbo kit better than this?
I dont know, buts its pretty kool i guess, he ran a 14.3,street tires, 100% stock non-vtec(besides fmu) on 5 psi, i have a d16y8 and im sure i could get it around that time...i cant find any cheap turbo kits around here, would a set of blades be a good trade for a d series turbo kit?
