Rattle Can Job, AGAIN.
Has anyone wet sanded a rattle can job? Below is the color im doing my eg, Krylon Gloss Hasta Leaf. I've always enjoyed Krylon as it has the vertical/horizontal tip, and the coverage is excellent and for the most part, even.
My roof and hood are black, i'll probably paint the trunk black just to match, so i wont need much cans of green. When i laid down a test area, i got some shine, more than i thought, then screwed it up by putting Rusto-crap clear coat over it, which fogged it up actually.
So, is it possible to wetsand away the orange peel left by a rattle can job? I went to an automotive paint supply shop and got some killer sand paper, 600, 800, 1000grits. This **** is better than the 3M Automotive Paper from kragen or wherever. I sanded the area with 600grit and got a great smooth surface so i decided to just paint over that. I got a little orange peel but not too bad.
You cant see it in the pic, cuz it was taken with my phone, but here is an idea of the color. I've done this 4 times prior to this EG, but i wanted to try wet sanding the base coat this time.

you should just paint your entire car over with a gun instead of a rattle can. even though its more expensive its definetly worth it. ive never once seen a good looking paint job done with a rattle can and it definetly wont last as long either. im not trying to be a dick but it would be well worth your time and money

car looks good man
i did the hood trunk n targa on my sol using the roll-on rustoleum method. im not 100% on spray paint but i wetsanded between each coat with progressively finer grits 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. i'd imagine that as long as its prepped correctly, you keep it wet, and dont sand too much down then you should be good. as long as you take your time and dont rush it i dont see why it wouldnt work.

i seen on clubRSX a guy doing a rattle can job with clear coat. it came out glossin looked good i never thought it was possible to look good untill i seen the post. wetsanding is the key issue here and waxing it after a month wouldnt be a bad idea.
yea looked okay in a picture probably. i bet it didnt looke that great when you see it in person. link please for this spray can cleared rsx? seriously i get the whole okay i cant afford a paint job so im gonna spray paint my car and what not. but now clearing a whole entire car with a F'n spray can? come on thats ridiculous. id rather have a maacco job for $250 then to do all of that time and effort to make spray can clear look semi decent.
a. im good at it.
b. i dont want a professional paint job that i may get tired of 6 months later.
3. i have two kids, gf, morgage, and bills to spend my money on.

Like i said before, i have better things to spend my money on instead of paint i WILL be tired of 6 months down the road.
You know what, if you think you're good at it and you think it looks good on your car, then more power to you, man. Don't let anyone stop you. Plus the civic you painted didnt look half bad either so go for it. As for wet-sanding it, i'm not too sure lol
Thanks man, im not second guessing myself, it just bugs me when people knock on stuff they havent tried for themselves.
I rattle can'd my slipstreams back then and wet sanded the primer up to 2000grit then to the actual paint. I can tell you, it was a really beautiful job because it was one of the nicest job I have ever done. BUT, **** start fading.... Due to the heat maybe? Anyways, if you going for rattle can I would get matte colors like flat black, white cuz I used the Duralast Graphite color with the gloss. Hhhmm, maybe I used the wrong kind of too.
^^that looks good, im scared to do anything dark like that. There is a tendancy for spray paint to become blotchy and its more noticable in darker colors. The color im doing my car seems to be holding up pretty good so far, i kind of half assed the prep because i mainly wanted to see the color, and it looks fairly decent. I finally found my digital camera so i should be taking some better quality pics this weekend with the new paint!
Im debating, should i color match my lip/sideskirts/mirrors? i have no side moldings being a CX so im curious about this....here is my old EG with color matched everything.

eh, yea, i've done that...im not a fan of Enamel paint like that. When i got my EF painted, it had Rusto Protective Enamel...i was told that i had to get that **** off COMPLETELY, or else the new primer wouldnt stick.
