i'm not 100% sure, but i believe it is the same as a regular ls,gsr,or type r cluster. it's been done before, many times. as well as various other clusters. check out the thread. i posted a nice pin out which will help tremondously with the wiring.

yea its not that bad. just double check the wiring and make the connections securely. if the wires start falling apart over time, you'll find yourself tearing it all back apart again.

here it is...i didnt take the pic...this is the pic the seller sent me before i went to check it out. notice how the speedo is below the stopper on the 0...but i fixed that. it came out another integra, so it didnt have thewiring harness. i found one on ebay, but first ima see if i can get one at the junkyard...also i need to get a vss. i heard it doesnt effect the km/hr if u go with USDM but prove me wrong if i am....ill thank you for it. install will be 2 weeks from saturday...wish me luck

ohhhhh....any advice on a vss? would any make a bigger difference or is it better to just go with the cheapest one i find?

any1????? cuz $80 vs $25 for a vss is a big difference and i wanna know if the $25 is an ok part.

also, for the electricians out there...would it be better for me to re-pin the integ plugs with the civic wires? or is it ok for me to connect wire-to-wire? is there a big difference?

i just put a gsr cluster into my 88 and it wasnt too bad, the pinouts i found on the net didnt match neither my 88 or gsr cluster so i went ahead i traced all my wires to where they went on my cluster and then matched it up to my gsr cluster... its very time consuming, but so worth it! make sure u take ur time, but its almost fool-proof if u trace the wires to the circut board/paper thing on the back of each cluster. id give it a 6/10 on difficulty just cause it sucks up ur time.

my question is....when you wired it, did u do it wire-to-wire connection? or did u rip out all the gsr wires out of the harness plugs and sodder in the civic ones? does it make a difference? thats all im asking....im not scared of tracing the circuits on the board...thats easy

i cut my 88 plugs off and soldered in the teg plugs, but i highly recommend when u get integra plugs that u get as much of the wiring as u can with it, it'll give u alot more room to work with. And use flux when if u decide to solder ur wires. makes it 100X's easier to solder... alot of the wires will match up by color, but dont trust all of em. lol

ok another question that i know hasnt been asked on here...so, the cluster is a 94-97 if i got my years right. the one with the grey guages. can i use 98-99 (-01) plugs? i know a few of the wires are different, but if the plugs fit into the cluster then the pins should be the same as if i used 97-97 plugs right? just different coloring...or am i wrong? dont answer this if you dont know for sure...

if the plugs fit then yea go for it! but i wouldnt wire it by matching the colored wires. id trace the circuts on both ur old and new clusters then match the wires that way. its prolly the easiest way, the pinouts online are all different and theres no way of tellin if they are correct... i know the pinouts i had didnt match at all. but depending on how much experience u have with wiring or circuts, it shouldnt take more than a few hours tops...its a little intimidating when u look at the back of the clusters, but its not hard at all. g'luck man!

ok its getting dark, and ive wired everything correctly except for the VSS. i have one more question, D16sihatch, it would be awesome if you could answer it for me.

for the vss i have

ground wire-grounded

power wire- spliced into red/black (tried black/yellow and straight yellow)

signal wire- spliced with orange from teg harness and yellow/silver spots leftover from ef wires

what am i doing wrong? tried multiple combos, and doesnt seem to work. what are the exact wires that you guys spliced in order to get the vss and speedo working?

thanks

i believe i wired power to the blk/yel wire. red/blk won't have power if the running lights/dash lights are not turned on, and i dunno what yellow wire back there you tried hooking power to because the other yellow wire is yel/wht and is for the fuel gauge. if i recall, that wire and the vss wire back to the ecu can be easily confused cause they are pretty much identical.

since you connected it to the orange wire though, the speedo should work on the gauge cluster. if it doesn't then either the vss is no good,or you don't have a proper power wire. with the car in the on position make sure the power wire to the vss is getting +12v.
