Brake pads to thick??
Bought some new pads and rotors for my 93 Si. Replaced the rotors and the pads but couldn't get the pads in the caliper to fit over the rotor. I had a caliper piston compressor (or whatever they're called) but I was still about a half inch off. The brake fluid filler cap was off.
Any ideas why this is?
This isn't my first time replacing pads but a first for the civic.

The only thing I could think of would be is that 1.) is it the correct replacement brake pad or 2.) are you sure you compressed the piston far enough so that the pad could fit?
Also, I'm not positive on this as I haven't worked on brakes for the civic for a while, but isn't it possible to slide the caliper around so that you could fit it over the rotor with new pads?

the piston must be fully compressed to fit your new pads
since you indiciated that you were unable to fully compress the caliper piston (1/2" off), i would inspect the piston for rust
you'll need to check that the caliper piston isn't seized. with the wheel off, i would remove the caliper brackets & keep the brake hoses ON. wedge a block of wood between the pads and very carefully push the brake pedal, which pushes the piston further out; look for rust that would cause the piston to get stuck. inpect the piston and the piston seal's condition

I was hoping this was going to be some stupid little thing I was over looking, guess not.
The piston is fully compressed - flush with the caliper body. I've looked at many different pads to make sure the ones I bought wern't unusually thick and that doesn't seem to be the case.
Don't want to but I might have to bring it to a brrake shop.
