Default sk2 pro2 cams

So my buddy bought some of these cams and I need to know the spec do I adjust the valves. He has aftermarket dual valve springs and titanium retainers. with a port and polished head. The head is on a b20 block are these cams going to work with this setup?

seems like you should have done your research before you bought them

Yeah I just installed them. I went to sk2 site and the specs were .oo7in and .008eh. I adjusted the valves and it fired right up. Now it runs fine until vtec is supposed to engage then it breaks up and wont rev out.

I told him it needed to be tuned asap because hes running a base map from jon vega for a stock b20vtec with gsr head and cams

Yeah pro2 cams are MUCH bigger than GSR cams. Also did you degree in the cams? He is breaking up obviously because he is running so lean. If your friend isnt careful he will pop that motor lol.

Pro2 cams won't run on a base map for GSR cams. You sure they are not Stage 2?

Search the all motor thread or start a thread there. IMO, if you don’t know how to degree cams, just pay a shop or someone knowledgably to do it right. Should have been done before you started driving it. Also, if all you have is a generic base map, you should not be engaging vtec or doing any hard driving. A base map is just to get your car running good enough to get it to your tuner.

This constitutes as hard driving in my book especially with port and polish head, cams, etc. If he does not baby it, he will probably cause some damage if he is not careful. more air + less fuel than needed = boom.

Just saying in general. If he wants to continue to drive it over the week until he gets it tuned, would def recommend asking the place if they can give him a basemap that will satisfy those cams for a short time. I would recommend he stops driving it though IMO.

Get ready to bend valves. Good luck on the rebuild. Should have done your homework before installing these cams on his motor. He'll probably be mad at you when he either breaks valves and destroys an entire motor or just bends valves.

Stock valve reliefs on a non-VTEC block are 31mm IIRC. VTEC valves are 33mm. Skunk2 Pro2 cams are huge and will probably make those valves kiss pistons when they cross over into VTEC. Correct me if I am wrong, but I'd recommend that you stop your friend before he hits the dyno. I bent valves with ITR cams, I'm almost positive your friend is ****ed with the Skunk2 cams.

This will end poorly.

.Manny is probably right about a valve train make out.

People really need to read before they buy things.

Nope sure didn't just very slow. Not enough supporting mods for the cams. We had no issues with piston to valve clearance at all. We are going to put the gsr cams back in it and columbia is going to retune for now. dudes going to start buying things to build the block.

Columbia even said that we can get 12:5:1 cr pistons and still not have to worry about p2v clearence

wow! Very lucky. You won't have any issues with after market pistons because they are designed to accommodate bigger valves.

I'm looking to get a set of Pro2 cams as well for my setup. Can't wait, I want to see how much more power I can squeeze out of mine on pump gas. If your friend is on a budget, tell him to give the RS machine ITR pistons a try. They are a great budget build piston. There are a ton of guys, including me, that have used that slug and had great results. Check out the All Motor section too for more tips. GL

The car is very slow? Stick a compression tester on it and see what it says. I hope you had the cam gears set with a 4 degree seperation and not 0-0 or V2V contact will happen as well.

Yeah it literally would slow down went you went into vtec. I had the cams set +4*ex and 0* in from skunk2. Columbia tried to tune it like that and said it wouldnt work so he changed it to +2*ex and 0*in. Took it home and put the stock gsr cams in it. Homeboy traded the pro2s for tuner series stage 2
