99 Integra LS with Apexi SAFC-II - Problem driving! (Please help)
Hi everyone,
Just picked up a 99 Integra LS with Apexi SAFC-II installed. Previous owner said because it's all wired up with a ZEX NOX system (I can see the wiring and lines but there's no NOX Bottle installed), that's ok cos I am not really into using the NOX thing anyway.
The problem comes in when I drive it for like more than 20-25kms, then when I accelerate the whole car like hesitates and shakes, if I just step on the gas lightly this won't happen. Everything is fine until I have driven it long enough. And everything back to normal after it being cooled down.
Could this be because of the SAFC-II needs tuning, or something else?
Could anyone help me in programming the SAFC-II please?

could be many things. i suspect something tps related since nitrous and the safc will be intergrated with the tps. the fact you mention warm is weird though, that's when the ecu switches to closed loop. get a scan tool on your car and monitor the o2 voltage and fuel trims, make sure the tps voltage is reading correct and check for any cel codes on the scanner. some people like to yank the cel bulb when they sell a car.

CEL Bulb comes on when key on. No communication with the scanner though (I suspect the car is not running on OBD II). Thanks for the advice will try to test the TPS somehow.
do and double check the safc wiring. apexi has the diagram online. they have to be done exactly like apexi tells you to. even the screwy dual ground
Thanks for your help.
don't think it resets when the power is lost. almost sure it does not. been awhile since i have played with a v/safc. also you don't need a dyno to tune one. you need a wideband.

Follow on note: Do you mean you need a scanner to read live data from the ECU? I think the car is running on OBDI or something since it cannot communicate with OBDII Scanner. That said, it needs something like a exhaust gas analyzer to tune the SAFC-II?

a wideband is an exhaust gas analyzer. it just shows you air fuel so you can get your car dialed. generally you shoot for 14.3-14.7 at part throttle and roll into 12.0 to 12.5 at WOT. the dyno could be helpful here since you could figure out what AF your car is making max power at
an obd2 {if you had one} scan tool with live data can help with part throttle tuning but is worthless for WOT

I have seen his gas analyzer too it reads O2, CO and HC, what figure are you referring to?
Thanks again for your advice. It's difficult shooting in the dark.
that's an emissions analyzer, you need a wideband. really not sure how to be more descriptive. a wideband monitors your air fuel ratio.
quick piece of advice. the faster you can get away from your mechanic and learn your car on your own, not only will you save money but you'll learn how the car operates.

It's exactly like that, but it doesn't show exact figures just keep flashing from lean to rich repeatedly. I know some meters do display exact figures.
