Default how do I get the tranny cases to go back together.

I had to split my girlfriends LS tranny appart today ( if you would like to know why, look at this https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=273067)

It went really smoothly until we had to put the tranny cases back together. we got the 2 cases to about 1/2" of each other and they just stop moving all together. Its not the snap ring, its still a ways from the ring so that could not be a problem. Does it take some amount of force to get it the rest of the way? Is it normal? Is there a trick to getting it closed all the way?

Just the other day I rebuilt 2cd and 3rd gear on my 94 gsr tranny. A few tricks that will help you when putting the cases back together are to 1st take a small amount of grease and putt it at the end of the main shaft and the end of the reverse gear where that annoying ring goes directly at the end of the shaft. This is to hold the spacer ring in place so it doesn't keep falling off every time you try and pull the cases together. The next thing to do it not put any grey RTV of honda bond in between the cases until you test fit the cases and make sure they go together without any unusual force. Did you take any of the syncros out? If you did, make sure that they are not binding together where they key in. The more force you put when pulling the cases together the harder it will be to get them to go together. So be calm and take your time. Another trick is to pull the shift shaft in diff gears while putting the cases together may help things glide together better. I hope this helps dude.

Turn the tranny upside down. Make sure you still have access to the clip. When the tranny is upside down open the clip. The weight of the tranny will cause the cases to go back together.

Get my drift? If not just email me.

I have had to do this a couple of times. Works like a charm.

Ask Mista Bone about tranny tricks. I think he has taken a couple apart

If you had the diff out, sometime it doesnt seat all the way. Everything else can fit and look good, but it may be just a little too high. May the diff bearing is binding up a little. It has happened to me.

When you do get the tranny cases are back together, an easy way to get the c-clip back into position is to bounce the c-clip end of the tranny on a phone book. It'll pop right into place.
