HELP! AC Compressor siezed in 04 Si Hatch
The A/C Compressor has once again siezed in my 04 Si. My husband replaced just the compressor (and a few other parts) last summer, but obviously didn't do it correctly, or bought a crappy part off of ebay. He had to basically remove the front end of the car to get to it.
Regardless, I do not use the A/C and know there must be a way to bypass. Any ideas? I have read a little about replacing with a smaller belt (50.5"). If anyone has done this, let me know or let me know if there is a belt from another model that would work. Thanks!
FYI I'm doing research for him and I do not have a clue what I am talking about.

When will people learn that stuff on Ebay is cheaper for a reason!?!?!
It is garbage.
You might be able to re route a smaller belt to work but it could put an odd strain on the belt driven parts. And I doubt an A/C bypass pulley is available for our cars yet. You mostly see them on common domestic stuff.

Yessir, we get the concept that the stuff on ebay was cheaper for a reason, but when you have two kids and bills to pay putting good parts on a car doesn't hold so much importance...and hey it got us through winter!
He ran a shorter belt and removed the a/c. Working fine for now! Thanks!

I've read of a couple of guys on EPhatch that have been running smaller belts for a while with no side affects (that we've heard of). I think they said they had to run a 6 rib belt (instead of the stock 7 rib) because it was the only thing the parts store had in the right size.
Also, doesn't the JRSC use a six rib belt or something?
Or for $200 you could go this route:
http://www.karcepts.com/shop/product.php?id_product=7
But personally I wouldn't use it because I hate manual tensioners.
