I use the tape adapter to play music from my ipod and it's been working for a couple of years. On my way home, I'm playing music off the ipod from the tape deck, and out of no where, the tape deck 'sounds' like it's ejecting the tape but it isn't. You can hear the music for a couple of seconds, music stops, tape deck starts to make that sound, the sound stops, and repeat step one.

I don't know if this helps, but the screen one the left side shows an up arrow when the tape deck makes that weird sound. The arrow is down when you can hear the music.

Any ideas of why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have no idea what is happening, but your radio is way too old if it is a tape deck.

Buy a new radio.

replace, not worth even trying to figure out. You can get a new head unit for about $175 that has an iPod direct hookup that not only plays and controls the iPod as if a CD is in, but also charges it.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I was considering on replacing it but I'm afraid of it being stolen. Would an alternative be using the fm transmitter? I'm not sure on how the sound quality on that would be though.

 

I can understand being worried about it being stolen. For me it is not really about having the fancy aftermarket radio stolen, it is the damage that might be done to the rest of my car in the process of taking it. It's not worth the risk so I have the original factory radio.

So you could always try buying a new factory Honda tape deck. Unfortunately they are probably really expensive.

The other route you could go would be to mount an aftermarket radio in a hidden location. I have considered doing that, except I am a little too lazy. I saw somebody who mounted their radio in their glove box so it was out of sight.

I have heard about those FM interface kits. I doubt the sound would be much worse then 1 of those tape adapters you had been using.

If I were you I would go with an aftermarket radio in a hidden place. You wouldn't be able to see the display on the radio, but you would be able to see the display of your mp3 player.
