***OFFICIAL 8G Suspension Thread***
Same idea as the intake thread.
Just chime in with whatever you have/know about, and your opinions on it, in a clear and concise manner. Include cost, performance, longevity, etc.
Thanks! (I'll be doing this with nearly every mod, too)

Moton is about to come out with a new suspension for the 8th gen civic's called the Street Sport. It's not going to be cheap but you get what you pay for. I'm guessing in the 3-4K range.
People are always asking which are the best coil-overs and I'll bet money these are going have the best ride.
As soon as I have some more information I will edit my post with pricing. I said I wasn't going to start modding the daily but from the way Moton's feel on my CRX I'm going to install a set on my 07 Si. Maybe we can get a group buy going?
Edit:
Retail pricing was just announced $2,843 for the single adjustable Street Sports - Steel front struts, Aluminum Non Coil-over rear no springs or camber plates. $4,195 for everything in the pic.

Tein Basic Coilovers
PRICE varies from different distributors, but normally around $1050
Pros
- definitely a real comfortable and smooth ride. i like the ride better than my old eibach sportlines. of course the bigger bumps are going to be a little harsh, but overall, they're real smooth.
- i would recommend these over pro-s unless you like bouncing like a 64 impala.
- good street coilovers for people with back problems.
- JDM bling!
- reputable company known for their success on circuits, drift, and rally.
- good customer support
CONS
- no compression/rebound adjustability. ride quality depends on how low you go, but the ride is still really smooth at the lowest ride height possible with both ring nuts on the perches.
- may not be low enough for some people. the fronts go about the same as the sportlines, and the rear will tuck the top of the tread on 215/45 17
- some people may feel that its a little expensive and just opt for pro-s. but the ride quality is superb to the pro-s and makes up the price gap.
- but i wouldnt recommend them for people with lower offset wheels that do rub.

As far as the best ride goes and if you want to get what you pay for shell out the money and buy some 28 series dampers from Koni.
I am running the sports all the way around. Front inserts and rear shocks. Mine are valved very aggressivly with eibach springs. When they were valved as sports they were very smooth with great handling. Being race valved they are very harsh but handle like a porsche..
I think a full set of these go for around $500 off the shelf. With the rear motion ratio being so bad it going to be kinda hard to find anything really "perfect" for the car.
HFP spring/strut combo:
MSRP: 500-600
Pros:
Still maintains stock comfort, with slightly stiffer dampening
No additional equipment necessary for alignment
All hardware included, plug and play
OEM quality
Cons:
Minimal difference in ride height
Non adjustable

I am putting together the first post, which will discuss the HFP suspension.
I read a few posts to the effect of "you can buy it from College Hills Honda @ $450 or so," but I see a higher price on their site, like $612.
I want to establish the cheapest baseline place one can buy it, and include that in the post along with what they usually go for on eBay.
K5's post on the HFP was so good I think I will just add the info to it, rather than making another one. I'd like the members to be the authors of as many posts as possible, rather than just one mod.

Skunk2 lowering springs
What I paid-$170 shipped to my door brand new from an ebay distributor
So far I have roughly 25.5k miles on my springs.
Pros:
Made me fall in love with my car all over again
Pretty aggresive drop for springs
Slight handling improvement
Good quality
Cons:
Rougher than stock ride, but not terrible. I have a bad back and it doesn't bother me.
Will blow my struts soon I'm sure.

Also, do you have anything to say about this? It's in the item description for the HFP suspension on the CollegeHills site.

You are not getting what you pay for. They are expensive cause of the front strut housing.

So you say you don't get what you pay for. Here are some interesting facts when people are given a choice:
During the 2007-2008 Koni Challenge Series (which was before cars were forced to use Koni's) of the 100+ cars that competed in the Grand Sport and Street Tuner classes 77 of them were on Motons.
HART uses Moton.
You do get what you pay for and yes you are going to pay more for a superior product because it costs more to develop and produce.
As soon as the Moton Street Sports are released for the 8th gens I will have them on my 07 Si. I know how incredible Moton's feel on my CRX (just so you know it had SPSS3 Koni's on it before the Moton's) and it was a night and day difference. On the Moton's it rides so much better on the street not harsh at all it like the Koni's and you can't compare them track.
Mods I thought this thread was to inform people what is available for the 8th gen civic. I'd rather it not turn to a typical HT back and forth but I had to reply to this statement.
I want people to discuss the suspension options they have first-hand experience with, and do so respectfully.
The information that comes out of this thread will be cleaned up, fact-checked, then compiled into neat little posts (authored by different HT members) that can be clearly read on the first (and perhaps only) page of the thread.
So, feel free to go back and forth, just keep it clean and that will be less work for me later.

I have had the HFP suspension on my car for almost a year and a half.
I have found it to be a very balance ride, with a clean and not overly aggressive drop. The handling is superb, and not to harsh. It is still stiff and you can feel bumps and dips ALOT more than on regular suspension.
The HFP suspension is great in all weather, I have put mine through 50,000 miles and 2 winters. Paired with a good set of tires I have been able to keep pace with cars that have had alot more money spent on them.
PROS
OEM Look
OEM Quality
Shock Spring combo that were designed around eachother
comfortable ride
Much better handling than OEM
CONS
not Uber rare JDM Baller parts
Limited to around a 1" drop
no adjustability

I've had Koni's on my cars since 1999. I'm very familiar with how they perform and they are a decent entry level shock/strut and they do have some decent higher level units available. They just don't compare to Moton.

You were running Spss3 on your car, its a revalved sport. Far from a 2812.
As far as the Koni challenge teams using motons before they were forced to go to koni, it was more of a follow the leader deal and they had alot of track support with motons.
And last, In every A vs B(KONI VS Motons) On track tests with many different cars. The Car with KONIs was faster. Read up follower.
im not going to make this a bitching match, but H.A.R.T has been running Konis since 04 by choice.

I'm not trying to instigate anything here. I don't want this thread to get locked.
For all we know, civicjason could be making all this up (which hope is not the case). I see nothing wrong with a good civilized debate. If he's got the links to support his claims then it's a win for this, the official suspension thread.

I'm leaving for the Dixie National Tour in a few hours and I still have to finish up a few things. We'll see how the Moton's perform this weekend
Here is an interesting tidbit; in both ST (89 Si hatch) and STS (88 Si CRX) Moton's were on the SCCA Solo2 National Champions cars in both 2008 and 2009. There were a lot of cars running other high dollar shocks including the high end Koni's.
I'll get some more facts for you guys...don't worry.
My first post will be edited to detail the performance and cost of the Moton's available for our cars. At the end of the day get what you want to get I'm just trying to inform people of a suspension that gives a great ride on the street and rocks on track. Cheers!

I recommended that a friend get a set of the Moton ClubSports for his 2008 S2000 CR. He installed them on the car yesterday and this is the email that he just sent me. I think it speaks for itself. No harshness like the Koni's
He's also going to the Dixie Tour this weekend we'll see how he does against the other guys that are on Koni's.
Heading out the door!

I had a small window yesterday due to the rain to see how the car feel around my little area that I usually test my alignment settings, and I noticed one thing, the limits on the car went to super high level that it was almost toooo damn good. I'm going to stiffen it one more click all the way around rebound and compression to see how if it feels, but damn I'm impress so far.
