Default do i need a new ecu

i have a p06 that had a boosted z6 on it now i got a z6 with a y8 head.i have idle surging when its warm and it shows code 14.i was told that i might just need a dif. ecu
...i bought a p30 to try it out for ***** or so i can trade for a p28.so i put in the p30 and it has a different tone and it doesnt have white smoke coming out the tail pipe any more.but does have a lil bit of black when reved high.witch was to be expected on account its a dohc ecu.but with this ecu in it also has a less aggresive surge and no cel blinking.and when i drove it a lil it feels better. do i need a ecu or is my problem else where

Is your car still boosted? If not you need to re-tune the P06 to run what you have in your car now.

Xenocron.com
Phearable.net

Ether of these retailers will be able to give you a base map for your setup. Tell them what you have and they will create a base map to match it. Honestly though, if you have a tuner in your local area. Find out how much it would cost to put your car on the dyno for a properly tuned set of fuel & ignition maps.

If its really white, that is coolant. Shouldn't have anything to do with the ECU.

Yeah, you might wanna go over and check the health of your car before looking at the ECU.

Could be an air pocket trapped in the coolant system. This could in turn send false signals from the ECT sensor to the ECU. Remedy = Bleed the coolant system of any air.

Do you have your fast idle thermal valve hooked up? Could be that or your IACV. REmedy = Clean the IACV and or clean and adjust the FITV if your engine is equipped.

Or it could be a vacuum leak, however a vacuum leak usually surges no matter what the engine temperature is, cold or warm.

If your still running rough with white smoke, I would check the head gasket. As stated above an ECU isn't going to stop that.
