Model year from VIN or title for ordering parts?
Hi guys, I have ordered an oxygen sensor for my Honda from the Amazon. However, I am having second thoughts about whether I picked the right part, because according to the VIN my Honda is a 2001 car, and according to the title it's a 2000 car. So which year should I look up when ordering parts? Thank you.
The VIN is a 17 character number made-up of both alpha and numeric characters. No two VIN's are the same.VIN numbers are used to record everything that will ever happen to a car. When ever your vehicle is sold, involved in an accident, or involved in an insurance claim, or recalled, bureaus such as CarFax record that information in data bases.VIN's display a car’s uniqueness and manufacturer and provides a method to trace a car from the factory to the junkyard. Your VIN number can be used to track recalls, registrations, warranty claims, thefts and insurance coverage.

VINs are made to be a pain in the *** for chop shops... btw titles are fuct up by a year on alot of the cars i get, I'm not sure but for that year I think its still the 10th digit, newer hondas do the 6th digit... blahza blah...
Very interesting first post! Google much or does your name happen to be Kerry Wilson?

Exactly! But technically it is not an error. I find it very confusing that model years start in June, whereas calendar years start in January. Technically, the car was manufactured in 2000, even though its model year is 2001, so the title writing people have a point.
It's always been the 10th character of the VIN and will always be that way.
1996 = T
1997 = V
1998 = W
1999 = X
2000 = Y
2001 = 1
2002 = 2
etc.
In 2010, we started all over again with letters.
2010 = A
2011 = B
