ATTN GPS & Data Acquisition Geeks
I am currently taking college classes in AcrGIS. This is basically a map making software, that can do all kinds of neat stuff. Anyways I need to do a project.
What I am trying to do is make an aerial view of a racetrack map that will show for any given lap, your vehicles speed, RPM, Oil Temp, Oil pressure, G-force, throttle position etc.
To do this, I am going to need raw GPS data, and data acquisition data.
Things I need to know:
1.) What kind of GPS/data acquistion unit you are using
2.) Are you (and your unit) capable of exporting raw data, and if so what is the format?
3.) Are you willing to share that data with me?
Things I will try to do:
Make some pretty maps that you can use to brag to your Homi3z about your race car. Hopefully, this will provide you with a new way of looking at your data.
Thanks

1. Very old Mychron 3.
2. Program claims to export to excel....Me maybe, not sure.....
3. Yes, no worries about sharing data info here.
4. OOPS........May not work for your project (no GPS, just "calculated" track map from accelerometer/g sensor.)
Sorry, Good Luck

The race sim rFactor has a data aqcuisition plugin and the data is viewable in Motec's i2 software. I don't know if this would interest you but it would definitely provide some flexibility.
Edit: I just noticed the GPS thing too, so, this might not do you any good.

Come out to Cal. Speedway next weekend. I will be there Friday and Sat.
I have RacePak and just installed another... Can't recall the name now... I am out of town.
I'm sure a few other guys can let you see what they are using.

My car looks just like the avatar.... or just ask for the "Bunny Club" car among any of the Honda Challenge drivers...
I will have a garage. Usually we are all together. I don't know the garage number yet.

Will you have a laptop with software to pull the data off the unit at the track?

Yep test and tune... But since its Cal. Speedway our testing time is restricted so we only get 4 sessions or something. Its like a normal track day with a club. We cannot just go on and off at will.
