the best thing is to use the same harness for you car and add wires for vtec and what other sensor you will need to hook up. the thing you will need to do is figure out the same sensor on your old engine and find that same sensor on your new engine and hook it up the the plug of the harness you may need to add or cut wires.
I haven't put an H22 in a CRX before, but in my experience with putting a B18 in mine, I just hooked up the original crx harness to the motor, changed the plugs where needed and added the wires from the jumper harness where they were needed. I believe it is possible to re-pin the wires from the h22 harness main plugs to the crx harness main plugs so they match up to where they are supposed to go, but if you already have the original crx harness, it might be easier to just use that harness so you don't have to re-pin that many wires. If you find a wiring diagram for those main plugs, you could re-pin the wires into the crx plug so the engine harness would plug into your crx near the firewall. But then again, I've never had experience with an h22, it could be a whole different ballgame. Hope this helps you out some and don't confuse you too much. lol!
Your car is an si model, so its really easy. Just use your original si motor harness on your h22 motor, just extend the wires for the alt, and maybe the tps. Your just causing yourself headaches trying to use the h22 grey plug harness.

Been there, done that. My first attempt at installing the H22 was using the prelude body harness. What a colossal waste of time.
A good learning experience though..Modifying an original engine harness is the most common way people have been swapping engines into CRXs (and all other hondas) for the past 10 years.
Preferably, you'll want to find an engine harness from an '89 CRX/Civic. Something tells me that 88's a different but I can't remember why - you're generally safe if you stay within the model year. I guess it's up to you to research engine harness compatibility.
