Energy Suspension mount inserts question
I have a full set of the poly inserts that I was using when I had a D16y7 in my '96 sedan. I have since swapped in a B16A2, and am using the inserts on the front lower trans and engine mounts, but haven't installed them in the other mounts because the vibrations were so bad with the old motor, that I didn't really like it. I have heard that the VTEC engines have a harmonizer pulley that the D series do not, which would reduce the vibrations I would experience with the inserts. Is that true?
Yes and no- The harmonic balancer lowers un-torqued vibration, so to speak. It doesn't really decrease the shaking of a motor when it really torques, just the shorter wavelength vibrations of "normal" operation. So the question is whether the uncomfortable vibrations you experienced were from the shaking when the engine torques or more of a buzzing vibration. There are also aftermarket balancers that can perform better than the stock part.
The vibrations were only intolerable at idle. When I was cruising, I would hardly notice a difference. I just hated everything rattling and shaking when I sat at a stop light. I liked the way the car shifted, and I felt like I really got more power to the wheels with the inserts in. I'll probably just throw them in and see how it responds. Thanks for the input.
