Another GC/Koni thread..
Did my research and it seems everyone on here is a fan of this set at least to a certain extent. I've got a 98 civic as a daily and am just looking to drop it a bit to take away some wheel gap. I don't race the car or anything like that, I just need something that is going to ride pretty nice and last. I don't have a ton of money to spend but don't want to cheap out either. For this price range, or even a bit more, is GC and koni yellows the way to go. Why or why not? Lastly what makes GC sleeves different from the $40 ebay sleeves(not that I'd ever trust my life on those, just curious..) Thanks for the input and I know it's been covered, just looking at possible other routes or reasons. Thanks again!
You can get two ride heights with this kit (run it myself for winter):
A gap (with 195/50/15 wheel/tire) of 2.5/3 fingers, which is a bit lower than stock;
a gap of 1 finger, but then you'll have to get an extra groove machined on the rear Konies (which is perfectly OK) and cut the front OEM bumpstop in half.
You could of course also just get the Konies and then lowering springs from another brand - I just happen to like Koni.
Sheer quality. This translates into like quality springs, and that you get a set of four of equal rate -and a decent rate instead of crazy-like stiff, quality sleeves and locking perches that actually still work after some months instead of like rusting together forever after a week.
GC is superior because they use Eibach springs, which is some of the best you will find anywhere. You can buy a standard kit, or upgrade to any spring rate you choose. Also, the sleeves and collars are built to last. I have had my GC's on my car for 5+ years with over 100k miles on them and they still perform like they did when they were brand new. The sleeves don't rust. The collars don't freeze up, making them impossible to turn, etc. They are very tough and dependable. Plus GC has some of the best customer service you will find anywhere. I just called them to upgrade my sleeves because I'm getting Koni shocks and I ordered a pair of top hats as well. They were very nice and very fast. My order has already shipped!
When it comes to suspension components, I would highly advise you to save up and get it right the first time. I always wanted Koni shocks, but didn't want to shell out the money for them. So I went with KYB AGX's instead. They are a decent shock, but they have nothing on Koni. Everyone recommends this setup for a reason. It is the best bang for the buck.

GC is quality but just so you guys know, Koni does sell coil over sleeves for their 80 series dampers, they are aluminum great quality sleeves. You dont need any adapters and they sit right over the snap ring on the body. Then you can just buy springs from whom ever you choose.
koni/gc setup is on a pricey side, so unless you're looking for custom spring rates and adjustable shocks, which is mainly for auto-x, you shouuld look into function forms type 1. they're great quality and price
aren't these unavailable right now though? I too am looking at koni/gc setup but would get the FF1's if they are available.

If you're really just looking for a bit of a drop and a sportier ride for a good price, I would actually recommend the Koni STR-T and something like H&R Sport, Eibach Sport, or off-the-shelf GC spring rates. The GCs will cost a bit more than the other springs but will allow ride height adjustment.
The Yellows are amazing dampers but might be a bit overkill for what you're looking for, and definitely cost more than the STR-Ts, which will ride a bit smoother than the Yellows.

the strt is a great damper, they are valved similer to a sport but are not adjustable. Matched with a eibach spring you have a nice set up. they ride good and handle pretty well. i had the first set ever on my old ek hatch.

How long do you plan to keep your car? If more than just a few years and/or 50K miles, I would recommend the Koni Sports. Mine are 8 years old with over 180K miles on them and they're still working great.
With stock Integra front springs and stock ITR rear springs, my car sits like so with Koni spring perches on the lowest setting:

Combined with a stock ITR 22mm rear sway bar, the car rides and handles very nicely.

Patrick, did you (have to) cut your bumpstops up front?
I'm touching mine (uncut) on deep/hard holes/bumps using the lower perch, Koni spings.

Mine were already cut from when I used to have GC's. I installed brand new OEM bumpstops (which I cut before installing) after removing my old H&R Sport springs, during the GC install, because the H&R's bottomed out all the time and turned the old bump stops to dust.
so not to get to far off topic but i found out that one of my tociko blue shocks is blown in the front..and im trying to put skunk2 adjusable lowering springs on..im wondering whats an awsome shock to compliment what im trying to do? will koni yellows be nice? will they allow me to go pretty low when i wanna go to shows or meets? input!?!? plz and thanks...im sorry for being a noob but i dont wanna spend money on the wrong shock for my setup, im thinking the yellows will be nice but i dont wanna blow them with these springs especially if i decide i want to go lower
Im pretty new to suspension, so I was wondering, whats the difference between OEM top hats and after market ones? do I need after market ones to use the GC/Koni set up?
