Why is my GS-R slow?
ok first of all im new to tis site so if i post tis in the wrong thread then tell me. Ok here is my question y is my gsr soo slow? Here are my spec of my car aem short ram intake, greddy header 4-2-1, dc muffler, iridum 9mm spark plug wire, and ngk iridium spark plug. With tis mod. i dyno at 136 whp, the guy who dyno said this whp is for stock gsr. then just last week i installed skunk2 stage 1 camshaft and skunk2 camgears and i dyno at 148 whp which is a 12 hp gain not tune yet, but still im slower than gsr wit header, intake, and catback. Y is that and they dyno at 148-155 with just those mods. Do i have to wait for the camshaft to break in? Wat is the problem wit my gsr. it runs great and smooth. vtec is really loud after cams, but i do not feel any pull at all wen vtec engage. it feels the same wen i havent installed the cams. the only difference is vtec is louder. Y is my gsr so slow? Im really confused. wat do i need to do?
thnks.
thnks.
First off you are 4-door, thats a difference maker. My stock LS can nearly keep up with my buddy's(low maintained) 4-door geezer. U, should consider honing your driving skills. But other than that maybe a clutch upgrade will give U that missing link.
LOL, i have seen 00 SI's put out that much hp stock. Just to let you know they should be around 148-158. Yours my friend, sounds odd. Timing right? Last time you did a full tune up, I mean a FULL tune up? Do you have a full exhaust, or just the header and the tip? how many miles are on the car? are you leaking any fluids? Oil? there is no break in for cams. I don't think the difference would be a four door, and a coupe.
check compression. if that doesn't check out, do a leakdown. check timing, both ignition and cam side. check fuel filter. make sure your clutch isn't slipping. tune the car properly and make sure you are able to hit the target a/f.
now get to work!
now get to work!
wat is consider a full tune up? Never did one ever since i got the car 2 years ago lol. i only have the muffler not the catback. still have the whole stock pipe wit cat. n yes there is some oil leak under the vtec solenoid and the distributer not sure wich one. could tis be the reason y my gsr is a slowpoke? n my milege is 190xxx, yes i no it is really high but nothing is wrong wit my motor. the only thing i see is some oil under the solenoid n distributer. tats it. thnks.
with my gsr, sometime you will here the vtec hit but not the pull, when that happens my oil is usually low! have you checked? kind of a stupid question but sometimes the easiest things can make big probs.

i thought it was my oil so i changed it yesterday wit mobil 1 synthetic. it is still slow. vtec kick hella loud but feel the same wen it havent have the cams yet.
Tune your car bro. Your running on your stock ecu and stock b18c1 maps. Your not gonna see any difference unless you tune your car according to your modifications. Get a real exhaust while your at it, and a clutch kit if you want to feel that power deliver.
i had a 94 stock gsr intake and catback it made 145 and 109
then i built lsvtec 9,2-1 comp je pistons crower hbeam rods arp hardware same gsr head skunk pro 1 cams custom intake mani full 421 header and catback with test pipe tuned on hondata s300 it made165 and 134 no boost u dont sound like ur too far off with numbers biggest deff i saw was clutch and lightened flywheel

^^ sounds right to me, THEN get your vehicle tuned man. . .
^^^ And get a different tuner -- yours doesn't know $#!+ about Hondas it sounds like. There's definitely something wrong, because with mods you're making less power than a stock GS-R. Honestly, it's close to LS power. As mentioned above, it could be a bad compression leak, bad engine or ignition timing, or a problem with the fuel or ignition system. It's time to start doing some tests and narrowing in on the cause.
yep yep check compression maybe do a leak down. clutch??? I dont think you need to play around with that. how many original miles on the car? oil change wont really do anything unless you drove it about 10k on the oil.
My recommend is to get some seafoam at kragen and put some in your gas tank and put some in your break booster vaccume line but DON'T OVER FLOOD THE ENGINE with the seafoam cuz the vaccume is pretty strong and it will suck it up fast. Connect another hose to the booster hose and pinch the hose so it sucks the seafoam up slowly. The car will smoke pretty bad. But make sure to rev the motor at about 1.5k rpm so it dont die. When you empty the can, let the car sit for 10 min and then start it and go and RIP it. I mean smash it until you see no more white smoke coming out. it should get some gunk off you valves and pistons.
youtube it and see how they do it.
thnks u guys. its really helpful. really appreciate all the people who post. well i guess ill start working now. ill be bac and post wat was the problem for future confusing slow gsr like mine. again thnks everyone.
If before your cams you were getting 138 WHP, then you're in the lower bracket already seeing as stock B18C1's dyno up to around 155 at the wheels stock to begin with... Sounds like your engine is just a bit weaker, mine is too... Stock for stock my friend's GSR pulled on mine on the freeway so... time for a build.... in 5 years when I get my master's degree and get a real job haha
has anyone asked if he went to a mustang dyno or dynojet? different dynos read higher/lower. his quarter mile mph and car weight could give us a better idea. 96mph traps and low dyno numbers basically mean it's a low dyno. a ballpark is 170whp on a dynojet with a 2650lb car will hit somewhere between 95.5 and 96.5mph
