Default longitudinally mounted D/B Series transmission options?

Are there any transmissions for the D/B/H series engines that can be suited for a rwd car?

Either bolt-on or with an adapter plate?

Or is the F20C the only option for this?

Thanks

Your going to need to find a trans to spin CCW first.

the short answer, no.

if you are trying to prove a point or build something that's never been built and will never be built again.. it can be done with enough custom machining and fabrication at far greater cost than an F20C (or even toyota 4AGE..).

i've come to the theoretical conclusion that with some cutting and custom gears in a G25A Vigor transmission can be made to drive the rear wheels...

the other option, which isn't theoretical (it's been done) is to put the engine longitudinally in the trunk with an old VW bug/bus transaxle and an adapter plate.

as a note, in an existing RWD layout a K-series or J-series would be a more practical swap option since they spin CW like traditional RWD engines.

Thanks for the replies. Yea I had not considered the fact that those engines spin CCW.

I've also considered the KA24DE and the 4AGE has come to mind.

SO what about the K and J are there RWD transmission options for them?

i'm unaware of transmission options that would simply bolt up, but i would expect much more than a flywheel spacer, adapter plate and a few custom mounts to get it mated to most any RWD drivetrain.

weld the diff. plug the forward facing axle hole, run an axle out the back to a diff

the thought crossed my mind.. the drawbacks i think are strange gearing (final drive at the diff and then again at the rear axle). unless you could find a 1:1 rear axle... the other is needing to offset the drive train 10-12 inches to get a drive shaft down the center tunnel.

this is a good layout for rock crawling buggies with one seat and nearly unlimited arrangement possibilities. of course you would keep both axles (front and rear drive shafts).

EDIT: oh, and unless you find a "CCW" rear end or flip the engine and transaxle with the "driver's side" as the open output towards the rear, you're still spinning the motor backwards.

This can and has been done without much difficulty. You don't need to reverse rotation either. If anyone is still interested drop me a PM
