Default b18 build

Hey everyone, Ive got a b18c1 with b16 head in my 98 civic, the project has been going on forever and its still not running right. Its semi built with b16 pistons, acl bearings, and new piston rings in the block. Dual valve springs and retainers with type r cams in the head and all arp bolts. The car now has a obd1 p28 running it becuase the obd2 p72 i thought was the cause of the cel and reallllly rough running. Did i mention horribly slow? So ive heard it could be the wiring of some of the sensors in my engine to my ecu/harness..???Is this correct and if so what do i have to do? Is there such a thing as your ecu being on limp mode???
I love my civic to death please help me get it running right!
Thanks LOTS!!!

Ok I don't know a lot about ecus... However, I have a p28 for my d16. I thought you'd need a p54 or p75. Both of the ecu's you mentioned are for sohc

a p72 is a gsr ecu and he can run a p28 if its chipped. the cel with the p72 is probably from the IAB. if your not running the gsr head with the gsr intake manifold running the p72 ecu unchipped is gonna give you a cel because the gsr intake manifold has IAB'S and the p72 is gonna be looking for them and since it cant find them it send a cel. also did you get the p28 chipped if not its not gonna run right you need something like a type r base map. and do you have the step down harness from obd2-obd1 it could be lots of diffrent issues

Yes i have the obd2a - obd1 harness and its hooked up to a stock p28, so without the type r basemap i should still be throwing a cel? The p72 was obd2 and the p28 is obd1... Or is most likely becuase of a sensor not being wired propery? Just one more question, whats the easiest way to check or pull the cel code?

If you don't have a code reader, you jump the service connector and count the flashes. If you search, there are threads that walk you through it.
