Default Can we get a pearl paint thread??

Would like to see all kinds of pictures of some pearl Hondas/Acuras. I get tired of seeing factory colors and championship white everywhere, nothing is wrong with that! Just want to see some Pearl!

No they dont. almost none of them do. They do however have either have metallic, or pearl effect. Both of which are added and mixed with the basecoat color and sprayed as one. An actual pearl paintjob has a completely seperate midcoat pearl which is why real pearl paint jobs are referred to as 3 stage paints. Base/ pearl midcoat/clear. There is a noticable difference in depth and contrast on real 3 stage pearl paintjobs.

I can name three that I did that are tri stage that are Honda colors such as a Midori green from the 96 Hatch,Long beach blue pearl from an Nsx,And even the tradtional Milano red I mixed in the Rm Diamont machine was a true Tri stage. So there Deff out there from Honda. But then again some paint systems have different formula mixtures.I have a buddy that has Metalux base coat on his car (Midori Green)and the formula had the pearl mixed into the basecoat.Rather then Rm's formula that applies as the ground coat, midcoat pearl, then clear. And I was pretty damn impressed how good it looks as a base/clear job.

There is some misinformation here.

The thread title says " Pearl Paint Jobs ". That means any color classified as a pearl color, or really any color with dominant pearl tint. Plenty of Honda formulas include dominant pearl tint. Plenty of pearl colors are not tri-stage. Take the most common Honda black for example, it is a 2 stage pearl, NBP. NBP is in fact a pearl color. Like wise, tri-stage does not always dictate a pear color, most of the time it is but there is a few techniques involving 2 base coats and 1 clear that are not pearl colors. Milano Red for example, is a solid color, however there is a few paint systems that call it a tri-coat. IMO it depends on how you spray it, but that's just my 2 cents, but some paint systems still call it a tri-coat even though it is a solid color that can be done in 2 stage with some systems.

I guess it is dependant on which system you use,and how you look at it. we use dupont and have used ppg in the past the colors you mentioned have not been tri stage in either system. Weve done countless milano reds and a few midori, only one long beach blue on a hatch, I know that milano red can pop up either as a base/clear, or a 3 stage depending on the vin, who you ask, who the president was and what color hair you have haha(thats one of those colors that no one can say it is certain ha)...but nearly everytime they were always base/clear formuals. Oh dont get me wrong, Im not saying that basecoats with the effect mixed in th base do not look awesome, cause they do. Im just saying theres a difference beetween the two types of paint jobs and, especially with white (in my opinion) there is a very noticeable difference in paint depth and just the visuals of it.

again, I guess its just in how you look at it and classify it. I dont classify it as a pearl paintjob unless its a 3 stage paint, even if it does have a heavy ratio of pearl in it, simply because I feel there is a difference in the way the paintjob looks at the end. Even if a color has an assload of pearl powder or tint in it. Siimply because all Im doing is spraying base, than clear. Ive been learned to where its only a true pearl paintjob if your laying multiple coats of midcoat pearl. But thats where the difference in opinion and lingo used throughout the paint business and such gets brought into it.

ya, there arent a ton of tri-coat hondas out there. but the fourm title was lacking info. our Paint system has Pearl in pretty much every honda paint code. therefore i guess i was being a bit of a dick saying that most hondas had pearl in them, lol. anyways. EM1 Resto made it clear now that he wants non stock pearl paint jobs. i used fiji blue (and gm white, i two toned my car) and the color is ridculous for being transparent, because of all the pearls in it. never spraying my car that blue again, lol. but in the end it looked pretty good i thought.
