I found a really clean 99 civic ex 5 speed, and I was wondering if it would be wise to buy it even though it has a rebuilt title. He is asking a reasonable price considering the rebuilt title, I have yet to go see the car.

I usually jump between Hondas, but this is the platform I want to buy and keep for real. Considering this is the vehicle I want to keep, is the rebuilt title a problem?


Any questions I should ask, or things I should look for in a vehicle with a rebuilt title?

if u plan on keeping it then yes a rebuilt title is fine. lots of ppl freak about it but as long as the car was fixed right they have no probs. just check the car over really well. i had a ef that was totaled over a messed up front bumper all i seriously had to do was replace the front bumper and be done

 

It really doesn't bother me. I just want to see if there is something I should look out for, like fire or flood, other than that like an accident then i think is fine. Basically, how can I find out why it has a rebuilt title? and should I negotiate it more considering that? etc

 

ask them what happened, or run a vehix.
ifs its rebuilt im sure it had to be reported. could have just been theft.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking. As long as I keep this car, which I plan to unlike all the others I've ever had, then I should be good. I just know that reselling it is a bitch because it brings the price down significantly. I think this is why the seller is asking reasonable but very close to a fair price, even though the car looks fine. I will be going to check it out tomorrow.

 

^^ not always, this guy a i know just sold his rebuilt title rsx for blue book.

 

I wouldn't worry about it... just look it over thoroughly. Keep in mind the value will be a bit reduced if you ever want to sell it, but I think over time it matters less and less. Our cars are getting really old and probably close to bottoming out in price.
