Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
EDIT: Okay no need to worry, Civic hubs are listed as discontinued but the CRX hub is still available (part # 44610-sh3-981) and it's the same part, but for some reason that part doesn't show up as the replacement/compatible part when searching for a Civic hub.
This applies to DX and SI knuckles.
This doesn't include EX, STD, and HF models, which are different.
.................................................. .................................................. .................... .................................................. .......
So I know people aren't supposed to be asking where to buy parts but this is different.
Mods please dont lock this thead, this could be useful for many people.
So Honda has discontinued the front hub and the suppliers of aftermarket hubs have also discontinued the part. just the front, the rear is still available.
Now that is ridiculous, There has to be some source for a front hub, do EG or EK hubs fit? There weren't any other models cross referenced for the hub, but maybe some other model have a hub thats the same.
Does anybody have experience with this issue?
I was told a tack weld (bearing to the hub) could keep the bad hub frum chewwing up the bearing. but that sounds way too drastic.
btw I found one at the junkyard but it was toast, I would prefer a new hub if its possible.
Re: Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
I'm not too surprised. Nearly all the interior parts to the CRX are discontinued and not in stock. Many other bits and pieces that contribute to the operation of the vehicle are becoming unavailable.
Re: Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
Alright I did some more searching and it looks like CRX hubs might be available (I've got a civic). But they should share the same part # so I'm not too confident.
I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see, i'll post up his response.
Re: Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
Okay after more research I've found that the CRX front hub which is still available (part # 44610-sh3-981) might work for the civic, which sounds like a no-brainer, but they DONT share the same part number for some odd reason, AND they dont offer the crx part as an alternative, which is odd. but eventually I found this looking through CRX parts:
44610-SH3-981*HUB, FR. ( No Color ) $173.20 $124.70
The above part fits the following Model / Year combination(s). Click on the desired combination to view the corresponding trim related information **Model****YearCIVIC****'88 - '91 = CIVIC WGN ** WAGOVAN
CRX****'88 - '91= CRX 2DR DX
It specifies the civic wagon but not the 3 door hatch. So I'm still unsure if this hub will work but all of these models (crx, civic wagon, civic 3 door) share the same wheel bearings, so it should work theoretically. I guess i'll have to try it out.
Re: Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
I hope you're right about that, I'm about to order them.
EDIT: I ordered them online so It will take a while to get to me, But I'll update this thread when I get them. I'll either be ecstatic, or extremely bummed out.
of course as Tyson stated, only certain models are different. It won't fit EX's due to the 10.3" dics's, or STD for the fact it has a different axle, not sure on the HF, but all the others are the same.
Re: Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
Since OE is discontinued... For anyone looking at aftermarket front hubs, I’d stay away from “DuraGo” brand for the time being. The overall diameter is too large which won’t allow your brake rotors to fit over them. Tried with two different brands of rotors to make sure.
In addition, the heads of the wheel studs are oversized, not even tapered and will make contact with your knuckle, causing the hub not to rotate once installed. I didn’t figure any of this out until I had fully assembled knuckles back on the car. Created a lot of down time, blew out my brand new wheel bearings pressing the damn hubs out again, and just created a lot of headache.
WJB hubs from rockauto did the trick though. In fact, you can look at the pics of the DuraGo hubs and the WJB ones side by side on RA and you’ll notice there’s a size difference. This was a few months ago, I notified rockauto (obviously for exchange) and DuraGo but never heard back and they STILL list them. Don’t these people test fit them before selling!?!?
Re: Front hub discontinued, no aftermarket suppliers either
I bought a bearing/hub set on eBay since it had KOYO bearings, I thought the hubs would be decent too. This is what I received and they are like the DuraGo, too big @ 125mm diameter. The listing didn't mention the hub brand, but the seller is lone-star-auto-parts and we'll see if they stand by that "100% satisfaction guarantee"

Those are probably made in the same factory as the DuraGo hubs. I bet someone is sitting on a pallet of these somewhere and is gonna be out a decent amount of money from all the returns. I am kind of glad that someone else has run into the same situation - makes me feel validated lol.

Si Hatch if it matters.

Thanks for this. I've been looking for a good quality front wheel hub for my race car...and they just don't seem to exist. I'll give WJB from RA a try.

Just an update. I ended up getting some Dorman because I could get them the next day and they were cheap. Big mistake. They're awful, complete trash. I pushed out the studs and pushed in new ARP studs and the metal is so soft that the new ARP studs are basically loose in the wheel hub. Junk.
