find myself still wanting an r...
Well after being in the car game for a while, I find myself wanting a rare and relatively simple type r. I loved my 00 civic si back in the early 2000s. I've owned a few different cars since then and now own a modded subaru wrx. Now I'm 30 and would like a fun, lightweight well handling vehicle for a toy. This wouldn't be a daily driver at all. Anyone else done the same thing here?
It's the type r section so I figured this the most appropriate place. My question basically is has anyone here owned a newer vehicle than an integra and gone back to one? I can get a nice s2k for the same price but the r has it's own merits.
Many people have owned ITR's, sold them to get an S2K or something newer and shinier...then they get bored, and go back to an ITR. There are many threads about such car shuffling.

I personaly like the old feeling of the type R. I guess some would call it raw. S2000' are fun cars too but not practical and it did get old after a while. The only other "fun car" I would consider getting to replace the R would be a c5 z06 or an Evo MR.
Read the latest Edmunds review article on the R: http://www.insideline.com/features/1...-civic-si.html
I think it states a few key points as to the "feel" of the ITR, not to mention the sheer performance that make it what it is.

That is an interesting article. I remember lusting over a yellow type r back in 2000 when one was sitting on the showroom floor at nalley acura in atlanta. the 26k price was steep, but hindsight being 20/20 it would have been a great car for resale value alone. My wrx is fun, but would love the raw feeling of the r.
that's my personal progression, it should speak for itself.
OP I definitely can appreciate you migrating back to the R. I sold my first PY R in 03' and regretted it ever since
actually, had a rear strut blow up through the back carpet, $780 fix.
I had the CPO Warranty and Extended Maintenance. Warranty wouldn't cover it, they said it's a "wear item" so I made the argument that since it's a "wear item" then it falls under extended maintenance. No dice. They will do everything in their power not to stand behind a warranty. The only thing that they covered was an alternator that went bad at 55k. Another night the cd/radio stopped working in the nav unit so I had brought it in, fortunately the SA is a good friend of mine so he said they dedicated much more than the usual amount of time to troubleshooting the problem but was bracing me for a $2,000 replacement of the whole unit, but they were able to track down a short after a few hours.
Don't get me wrong, it was a cool car but just a huge liability and decreased in value at such a rapid rate. I was fortunate that I was able to still get 30k when I sold it with 70k miles on it, but it was a rare color combo and I took excellent care of it.
If I get a BMW again it'll either be an e30/e36 or a leased 3 series so I can write off the payments.

I just turned 30 last year, been daily driving the R for 6 years now. At times I feel like a kid driving it, but then again I don't have an exhaust so I don't attract that much attention. I still throw up a wave to other ITR owners and love driving it daily, was even pondering getting a commuter car to give the R a rest.
It's nice to roll up to a gas station or somewhere random and still have people asking about a car that's 12 years old now!
It's a car I don't think I'll ever sell unless I am forced too... get one. I haven't heard of a person saying they regretted buying a Type R, but many who have regretted selling theirs.

I just bought mine 3 months ago and I think Im ready to sell it... I was in the same position, had the itch to get one again since I missed my '98 CW that I sold 9 years ago. Im 29 and this is my second ITR and it sits in the garage too much to enjoy it, heck it only has 54k miles...
ehhh, this isn't particularly "newer" but this is kinda how it was for me.
I was in the market for a new car, i was going to either buy an s2000 cash or man up and put a big chunk down on one of the cars i have always lusted after, an MKIV Supra TT. During my search i came across the oppurtunity to buy a clean title, although battered and d16z6 having ITR.
Thinking about it, I remembered that teal integra i used to see for sale on my way home when i was 16 years old riding the bus in high school. (yes, the teal integra was not an ITR obviously, but it's when i got obsessed with integras) After i thought about it, the decision was clear. I no longer thought about the sure to be future dyno queen i wanted so bad. Without thinking about it much harder i immediately bought the ITR.
As it stands right now, including buying the car i have spent between 14,000-15,000 restoring the car and upgrading alot of things on it. I still have about another $4000 to go on buying pretty much everything on the exterior of the car that unbolts, and a complete respray. The only reason it's going to be only $4000 is because my buddy is doing the body/paintwork for free, and his work is goddamn flawless.
The end result? Do i regret it one bit? Absolutely not, the feeling of driving the one true car I always wanted is going to make that near $20K a non-issue.

I dont know if I could ever own a R. A friend of mine got his quarter panel kicked in at a gas station while a group of kids tried to jack it from him in broad daylight. And his was black too, the most low key color of the R's IMO. Maybe it was just a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
