I just bought and installed an cheap eBay N1 style exhaust and I am actually very happy with the sound. I know this is not much tech but I wanted all to see that taking risks can sometimes pay off. I took a video of how it sounds.

I think it sounds great though the install and fit was rough. It hangs a bit low, especially where the resonator is. It has no rasp at all and is very quiet from idle all the way to full throttle. Flame me if you will but my old exhaust was so clogged from my cat dumping its internals throughout that my car wouldn't run. Being a college kid means I have no money and this was the only way to go. Only other mod in the system is a Magnaflow cat. Best of all, it came with one of those beginner jdm badges son!!!!!

other than the piping hanging alittle low it isn't bad...

 

It does suck trying to build a car on money I make over the summer/winter break. It is fun though. I was always a die hard 'merican car fan, but these hondas are pretty fun and cheap to build. I even sold my 1987 Corvette to afford the engine swap...and to pay for tuition (which is what I tell people).

I suppose I will check into my headgasket. Is there any other way to check other than seeing if your coolant is brown (mine is not) or simple inspection (I didn't see any leaks)?

 

Look alright and hope it last. IF you want to fix the blown gasket then get the service manual, and tools..

 

check the oil, it will look milky, and to be posative you can do a compression test, you can get a testor for bout 30 bucks at sears or a auto store will rent one to you

all depends how cold and humid it was that day, could be just steam. if you have smoke, it'll be there at any outdoor temperature. I would check next time its decently warm outside. if its white smoke your not getting a complete burn, maybe a fuel delivery problem. if its blue, then ur burning oil, that's usually a blown HG. either way a compression test isn't a bed idea. I try to do one each time i change the oil, just so I know, if **** starts going out on me.
Honestly it looks like blue smoke, but only when you reved it. could be piston rings or HG.
FYI putting your license plate number on a vid isn't a very good idea, I would pull that from youtube, just to be safe.

 

cool. I was hoping they would come out with a dual tip ebay exhaust so it looked like the stock exhaust. That would get me to buy one.

 

sounds better than the fartcan i bought 5 years ago. on the exhaust gas note just do a compression test and see... i dont know if anyone else noticed but there is snow still on the ground in the vid. it could just be cold. did you just start your car or did you have it prewarmed before that?

 

ebays not so bad if u pick the right stuff, i was just about to buy one but thought it might be too loud did it come with a baffle for the end tip? looks good to me and for the price u cant really beat it..

it sounds good but the blue smoke at 0:32 would worry me. head gasket might be bad. get that checked.

 

blue smoke is likely rings. nothing to worry about really unless its like consuming massive quantities of oil. can't hurt to do a compression test though and see what kinda numbers come back.

the white/grey smoke however doesn't really look too out of the ordinary. i definitely wouldn't jump to saying a headgasket by any means.

 

looks like condensation to me, especially if that was the first time you started it all day

 

That white smoke looks normal for a cold startup with condensation in the pipes. The blue smoke on the other hand you might need to check into that, because the last 2 vehicles i had, had blue smoke and it was noooot good. Other than that i think it sounds pretty good

 

im glad ur happy with it but the problem with ebay exhaust are the packing in the muffler is cheep and will break down fast and u will get that raspy sound that u mentioned.... also u need to watch the welds on it.. the guy that got paid to weld it gets paid buy how many he can make not by the hour so he is not worried about fixing a flaw and they fail quick... u just cant think it makes hp cause it makes noise.. i understand u bought it as a replacement so i guess u made a good choice
