type R tranny question..

Default type R tranny question..

sup fellas i have a b20 block with a gsr head and a gsr tranny and i am thinking of buying a 2000 type R tranny tomorrow...people have been telling me to get a si tranny but i didnt want to cuzz i some times take a 4 hr trip to go see da fam and i was told dat si tranny the gears r short and it will kill my gas so i was thinking to go type R... am i going to have problems as i would with si tranny with the gas?

Both share the same gearing. ITR has a helical LSD versus the Si open diff.

what do you think about the LS 5th gear .. if i sell my type R 5th gear how much do you think i can get for it..and what do you think about the LS 5th gear..im selling my GSR tranny if anyone is intrested..

Pointless IMO unless you just can't handle your loud exhaust. Higher RPM does not mean worse economy unless you can't keep your foot out of it.

damn.. but nah i can handle the noise i jus feel like when im in 5th on highway feels as if im in 3 and kills alot of gas i thought if i were to change 5th gear i would b ok cuzz im always taking trips to DC,maryland u know... so there would b nuttin i can do about that even if i were to get it tuned again cuzz im planning on getting it tuned again after i put stage 2 cams and msd and vtec controller?

iv got a jdm b16 in my coupe and i have a type r trans and i constantly find myself drivin down the highway and takin it out of 5th and putting it back in because i feel like im in 3rd
(my last 3 cars had LS trannys)

well is it jdm itr or usdm?? only difference in jdm it has 4.7 diff and 1 2 3 b16 and 4 and 5gsr...
usdm itr has 4.4 diff 1 2 3 4 b16 and 5 gs-r so i dont y you guys think its short... i have gs-r trans casing i put 1 2 3 4 b16 and 5 gs-r, i'm doing 80mph in 5 my rpm's at 4000rpm only b16 has short gear from 1-5 and 80mph would be 5500rpm

Yea I understand....but **** kills madd gas kid....lmao..I already changed 5th gear to LS I should b droping it in tomorrow hopefully.....if everything goes as planed and I will let u guys know how it feels and wa rpms it is at and mph

like i said type r 5 gear is gs-r and it wont rev high as b16 5th you should be fine with it... plus 5 ls gear will throw you off you gear ratio's wont match the rev.
