On a D15B vtec. I'm thinking about doing this when I get around to putting my Hondata heat shield on but I'm not exactly sure which hoses to connect where... Who's done this? Also, does it produce any noticeable power gains?

 

well i kno on a b series you gotta plug off all the coolant lines. makes a little bit of a difference, havnt seen any dyno numbers yet

 

I think on the D you take the line off the fitv and the ivac and then link those lines together... Maybe not...

not worth it. even if you bypass the fitv and iacv your cylinder head is still going to be dissipating tons of heat into the intake manifold. why screw with the idle just to try and keep the intake temps down for a few minutes while the car is warming up. it's going to get hot no matter what. not to mention it's not going to make any appreciable gain at all.

 

Honestly, my engine doesn't really get that hot... I drive it 40 miles straight at around 60-65 mph and I can lay my hand on the motor, intake, bottom of the radiator, etc. no problem.

 

constant rpm with no load and lots of air moving through the engine bay will keep the engine cool. of course the whole reason behind this "mod" is people think it will give a colder intake air charge and therefore make the car faster. so in order to get a use out of this "mod" one can assume you'd be heavy on the throttle.. which is going to make the engine a lot warmer.

 

Well, since I only do drag racing and the season is coming soon, I'm trying to get as much out of my d15 as I can, even if it's just .5 hp.

Rick Rabies started a thread somewhere about the Hondata intake manifold gaskets and they are apparently crud. So I looked into it and Teflon would make a better gasket than other materials used for stuff like this.

If you want colder intake temps, get some dry ice and put it on the intake manifold. Every 10 degrees cooler the air is, you gain 1hp.

 

its is very simple the hose that comes out the head normally goes into the tb and back out to the block ( or thermostat housing) well just get a long hose and connect form where it comes out to where it goes back to the motor as for the iac do the same comes out the back of the block tru iac and back to head (or other way around you get the picture) just get a new hose and bam your in there
it does mess with the idle of the car either as long as you have the iac still on the back of the manifold and the plug conected your good
i use rubber caps so i dont have hoses running here or there they sell them at kragon there's a pack of assorted sizes they work for my drag car
and it will help out hondata shows charts of it makin power and in mind it sound like a good idea also cleans things up easyer to work on
so go for it man
