Default squeaking timing belt

Hi guys,
My timing belt has started squeaking , but only in the mornings when it's cold.
It has less than 5 k miles on it.
Is this normal or Should I replace it.
Thanks

WTF???haha

Most likely isn't your timing belt.
What motor do you have?
Timing belts have teeth so they dont slip and squeak.
it could be Alternator/power-steering/or idler pulleys etc.

X3 if your timing belt was "squeaking," that means its slipping which doesnt occur because the teeth prevent that from happening. (sometimes in bad instances it fails) , and if that was the case, your timing would be S.O.L. and so would your motor after bending some valves.

i had the same problem on my CRX with my serpentine belt. squeaky when it was around freezing in the morning but it was fine after the engine warms up. what i did was i tightened the serpentine belt even more when the car had been sitting for a couple hours and it stop squeaking. so try that first before accusing the timing belt.

Oh, I checked that, it's really tight.
My manual says 6 mm freeplay, there's only about 3-4. Could t be too tight?

yea, i would loosen the belt.
My Alternator belt was so tight that my alternator seized up and locked up destroying the belt and causing smoking and the motor to stall=[
so i would loosen it asap.

it started out by squeaking at first of course.

a serpentine belt is a belt that runs multiple components, such as a chevrolet v8 where one belt runs the alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pump ect. when it is one belt that runs one component, it is referred as the "component" belt, ie : alternator belt, power steering belt, a/c compressor belt, ect.

Dont be so quick to rule out the tuning belt, timing belts can sqeak, the belt runs over the flat "wheel" of the tentioner, which is where the sqeak could come from. but definitely start with the alternator belt first.

Heres a thread with a sqeaking timing belt https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/squeak-timing-belt-question-2717460/

you should have a tensioner pulley, its got bearing, they could whine, doubtfull though. more likely is your external belts. pull one off before you start the engine, and it might go away. or you could use the paper towel trick and listen to different parts of your engine to see which pulley is making the noise. remember it may be the belt slipping, or a component it's self squealing.
