Thanks for posting this up. Absolutely fantastic write-up. It is great that a car debuted over 14 years ago still reigns king of FF cars.

Basically says it like it is. Integra type R is the best FF car ever made.

The old Integra Type R, however, is absolutely scalding. With no stability control to turn off, it blasted through the slalom at a stunning 71.8 mph. That's just a little bit better than the last Porsche Boxster S we tested and it's more than 3 mph faster than a 2010 Camaro SS. Some exotics and the Corvette ZR1 will beat it through the slalom, but not much else.

Article integrity compromised.

John Pearley Huffman--he's been around for a while and is a good author. As soon as I saw his name I knew the article would more than likely be a good one; It didn't dissapoint.

I can just hear the Si fanboys crying now as finally someone put the two cars to the test.

Criticism: why did they not put Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires on the Civic Si? They are testing the car, not the tires. There goes the scientist in me.

Because an effort was made to duplicate the OEM tires on the ITR (since they could no longer be purchased new). The Bridgestone RE-010's that were put on the ITR from the factory were fantastic tires. Probably not quite the tire the Dunlop is, but they were very close. If you look at specs from 98, the g and slalom numbers didn't change hardly at all on the ITR.

Plus, finding a good performance tire in a 195/55/15 is not the easiest thing to do anymore. The Dunlop also fit the bill here.

The Civic also has OEM summer tires on it, as well. IMO there was nothing unfair about any of that test. Putting different tires on the Civic would have been the same as flashing the ECU, installing an intake, etc.

The ITR would have still posted better numbers with fresh OEM tires, so it's a moot point anyhow.

One of the better articles about the R I've read. Very well written and no full of a lot of filler bulls**t.

Out of the box, the ITR will beat the SI and will be loads more fun to drive because of the "raw"ness in nature but i wouldn't write off the SI at all.

It had been almost nine years since anyone at Inside Line had driven a stock Integra Type R, but once inside it was love again at first sit.

awesome review... i just dont agree that its a bad idea to modify an ITR. as long as its quality name parts (no knock offs) that were researched and developed for the ITR, i think its the best chassis to improve upon. but thats just my $.02

Is there a list of current or ex-training center ITRs? Would be cool to see where they end up and what price they went for (seems like no one wants to say what they paid for).

i love this part:

If Acura ever decides to go searching for its soul, it's downstairs in Gary Robinson's parking spot.

i think the author might have gotten his brake sizes confused, i thought the R came with 11" front brakes?

ah well other than that GREAT article!!

so... when's honda going to start making theses cute little cars that scream up to their redlines and scare the crap out of joe by stander again? wait, maybe they shouldn't. i couldn't bare the look of an ITR that was parrot beaked or smiling... **** would make me want to cry.

I loved reading that article. People have been wanting to do that test for a long time! :-)

Remember when we were laughing at Ross's mistakes in his review of the Civic Si a couple of years ago?

He bought the sedan version, simply because it reminded him more of his stolen ITR than anything else.
