wagovan drivetrain swap in eg8, fuel cell in trunk safe?
came across cheap realtime wagovan, was considering doing the drivetrain swap. started to think about if it might be sketchy to have the fuel cell in my trunk? if i get in a crash from the rear, would an explosion be possible if the damage was severe? i just remember the pinto and how they were discontinued for the same problem, rear explosions
any other insight on this matter would be much appreciated

these guys built a monster. though about it las year and tripped over this. i was wondering if an adw CRV swap would be better with the wagovans suspension and all

ok nothing you said means anything to me and that video is useless, i know you can do it, i plan on doing it. what im asking is, is it safe to have my fuel cell in the trunk if i get in an accident
and crv's are b-series and i have a turbo'd z6
so anyone with a real answer for me?

as long as your fuel cell is secured and doent get ruptured you will be fine. mount it well and far enough forward so if you do get hit there isnt a possibility of the fuel cell to get penetrated.
the fuel cell was designed for a race setup. MOST ARE A DOUBLE WALL WITH A RUBBER MID LAYER. get a quality cell and that should be it, secure it properly.
As far as the pinto is concerned. the fuel tank was mounted so close to the bumper with soo little protection that when a rear impact occurred, the hit penetrated the fuel tank and fuel leaked over the exhaust, causing it to ignite.
sorry for all the other garbage, read the title and your second post.

I think it would be fine as long as it's far enough forward. Lots of cars have gas tanks right inside the rear bumper and are more or less okay.
Keep in mind that even the OEM Civic fuel tank can be penetrated if it's hit right. That's true with ANY fuel tank. All you can do is minimize risks... which you're already doing by considering a fuel cell, which should be tougher to puncture than any OE gas tank to begin with.
So, I think it'll be fine.
