i just bought a honda accord lx and my d4 light is flashing i tried doing some researh on this site and got some info but really would like some help on a little more info...anything would help and if it might help the dianosis my automatic shifting **** is hard to put in gears i literally have to yank it in gear with two hands...any info like i said would really help i got this car thinking it would be easy but it's no civic cause that's all i know...

 

1. What year is your Accord?

2. When it is hard to shift out of P, it may be the brake switch (which is located under the driver side dash, above the brake pedal). It has a little plunger on the brake switch.

3. For the flashing D4, using a wire or paper clip, jump the 'Service Check Connector' located under the passenger side dash and count the 'D4' flashes to get the trouble code(s). See this link for more information:

thanks ill do that tomorrow and the accord is a 92 lx... and just to be sure the flahing doesnt stop it's a continous flashing...it won't stop til i turn off the car.

 

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) were a problem on that generation Accord, usually some burnt/blown capacitors and resistors. The link I posted has more info.

I would get the trouble codes first and then compare to the codes in the posted link. I would pull the TCM out from under the passenger foot well, then open it up to see if there are burnt capacitors and resistors inside. If there is damage, I would replace the damaged parts. If you are not that experienced in soldering, I recommend going to an electrical shop (e.g., radio repairs, electronic repairs, etc.) and asked them how much they would charge to replace the few damaged capacitors and resistors. It shouldn't cost too much to repair, if you do it, a few dollars; someone else that won't cheat you, maybe $20-$50.

It can be something else related to the transmission; but, there is a high probability your TCM is bad due to your generation Accord.

The hard shifting out of P may be due to a bad brake switch or loose connector to the TCM.

^I forget where I found that link, but I think that may be a decent option if you end up needing to replace the TCM. It's really easy to replace. Just pull back the carpet on the passenger side floor, unbolt the mounting plate, then unbolt the TCM from the plate. The ECU and TCM are both on the plate. If I recall correctly, mine had a few sharp edges, so watch out.

 

Sounds like a TCM problem. I had the same issues with my 91 lx. I replaced it...problem solved.

 

do not waste your time replacing sensors. It is the tranny internals not the sensor. Probably in correlation with the torque converter. You an i4 or a v6? Either way take it to a tranny shop or swap it out yourself. I just had to do this and wasted weeks trying to replace sensors and what not to have the same problem occur as soon as I replaced them. On our models they are known to be defective...and there is no easy solution. Putting some lucas' formula in there will help on a short term basis, but it will only buy you some time.
